Our Mission Statement:
To provide support for children who do not have access to individualized reading time
Our Name
Reading Pig is named partly after Ellie, the founder of this project. Ellie thinks of herself like a pig because she loves to eat and eats a LOT!! Unfortunately, Reading Pig does not mean we will be providing you food. It symbolizes our hope that your child will develop a love for reading and "devour" new stories that they come across everywhere and anywhere. Just like how pigs and Ellie are always hungry and are known for eating, we hope your child will develop a hunger for books.
Hello and welcome to Reading Pig! I am excited that you are taking the step to become a part of this project and hope it will encourage children to spend more time reading. My name is Ellie Kim and I am currently a college student. This project was inspired by my love for reading. Growing up, my mother constantly read books to me - partly because I kept begging her to read them to me. As a result, my love for reading and books grew and it became a huge part of my childhood. When my younger brother was born, my mother asked me to read English books to him in her stead so that he could learn the English pronunciations. You see, my mother is Korean and cannot speak English very well. One day, my teacher told me that not every child has the opportunity to read with someone due to the absence of a parent(s) or because of a language barrier like my mother had. Through this project, I hope to be able to fill this void and provide access for every child to have someone to read with. As an older sister and a book lover, I believe that being read to and reading together should be an opportunity that everyone has. This project was created to give children this opportunity. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. I hope we will be able to create life-long memories with you and your child.
Hello and welcome to Reading Pig! I am so excited to continue this amazing project that was initially started by our founder Ellie. My name is Allyson Chun and I am currently a senior in high school. I have always enjoyed reading as a child. I would read whenever I had free time. I read many different genres of books and even read books that were in Korean. However, as I grew up, it was difficult to make time to read a book. I believe that Reading Pig not only helps our children continue to nurture their love of reading but also provides me with the opportunity and the time to read. I am so excited to carry on this project and continue making reading accessible and enjoyable for all children. Thank you so much for being part of this community! If you have any questions, feel free to email readingpig.22@gmail.com.
