Practice saying the sounds in words. Use the attached document to print your own sound boxes. You can use a variety of objects around the house (slide through pictures for examples):
Game pieces
Buttons
Rocks
Shells
Hotwheels (kids LOVE this!)
Small dolls
Small dolls, figures, or any toys
Cereal
Beans
Print this page for your own sound boxes. If possible print on cardsock. It is not necessary to print in color, but the green, yellow, and red are very helpful because kids can see beginning and end (go/stop).
Again, you can use any materials around the house. You can use cups instead of bowls, or even try paper plates.
one movement per sound
Bounce a ball
Play catch with a ball
Hop, skip, or jump
Make giant steps into each square of the sidewalk
Push ups
Sit ups
Jumping jacks
Walk up/down stairs
Toss a piece of dog/cat/bird/etc food to your pet for each sound
Giant
Princess
Troll
Robot
Use your imagination!
Ask what is the first, middle, or last sound you hear in words.
You can ask ANY word for first and last sound. Be careful in middle sounds. The word needs to have only 3 sounds for the child to identify the middle sound.
The next step is to substitute or delete sounds. This gets tricky for kids!
Clap, jump, hop skip, count the number of syllables in words
