Bloom Fest is honoring children writers and celebrating their work. This program is designed for children by children. The keynote speakers, panelists and moderators are all children.

Every person is a writer, and every writer deserves a safe environment in which to experiment, learn, and develop craft (Amherst philosophy)

  1. Everyone has a strong, unique voice.

  2. Everyone is born with a creative genius.

  3. Writing is an art form which belongs to all people, regardless of economic class or education level.

  4. The teaching of craft can be done without damage to a writer’s original voice or artistic self-esteem.

  5. A writer is someone who writes.

Keynote Speaker Rishi Razdan


Rishi Razdan is a Grade 6 student. He loves to read and started to write his first book at the age of 8. He has published one book and looks forward to writing more. To him, literature is a way to escape into another world and step into the shoes of imaginary characters.

He is excited to talk about his journey as a writer. He will share some tips and tricks when writing and a glimpse into the wonders of literature. He is the proud owner of a 5-month-old golden retriever named Hobbes. Rishi plays the guitar and enjoys basketball.

Moderators for the Event

Niharika Singh

Niharika Singh is 11 years old. She enjoys reading and writing mystery stories. She plays tennis and was a city-level champion in under 10 category. She loves to bake, sketch and plant trees and believes that one day the world will be free of violence and discrimination. Recently, she created her website Niharika’s Insights. She shares her community service reflections and work on her website. She envisions the world where every child will get access to quality education, health and nutrition.

Samaira Rodrigues

Samaira Rodrigues is 11 years old. She enjoys reading and writing short stories. She loves exploring creative arts, crafts and dance and believes that children should be given opportunities to express themselves. While she pursues her interests, she has a soft spot for plants and animals. She actively protects and enjoys taking care of them.

Workshop leaders

Writers Workshop Leader Ananya Parandekar

Title: Descriptive Writing and Grammar


Ananya is in 7th grade. She loves to learn, read, write, and listen to music. Her passion is writing, which she says she can do all day long. During her free time, she loves pursuing her passion for writing by brainstorming ideas for poems, narrative stories, scripts, and especially essays. As a passionate student, she loves learning and spends a lot of time doing so. To unwind after a long day of learning, she enjoys playing badminton.


Description: In this workshop, you will learn how to incorporate correct grammar to make your writing more fluent. You will also look at different tools and methods authors use to make their writing more descriptive and complex.

Illustrator Workshop Leader Gauri Singh

Title: Art That You Can Do at Home


Gauri is a 11th grade student. She loves art, painting, photography, sculptures and other art forms. She loves writing, especially creative writing.


Description: In this interactive workshop you will learn about painting, photography and how to create a story with art. This workshop is for all ages.

You will need paper, pencils, and paint or coloring pens and any other materials you find at home.

Workshops for Parents

Reimagining Folklore with Gayathri Durairaj


Description: What would you call a folklore? Can we actually reimagine them and give them a modern day twist. In this interactive workshop, we get a tiny preview at how parents can discuss folklore, mythology and fables with kids and make it more relevant to the current times.


Gayathri Durairaj is an author, poet, global nomad and an economist by training, has run a parents’ writers club in American school of Bombay from 2016 to 2018. Her first book of poems titled Quintessential Me. She currently lives in Hong Kong and has published her poems in many magazines like Ariana, Beyond Boundaries and the ASB online magazine and oopss.in website.

Doodle The Caboodle with Khyati Solanki

Description: Stories are combination of different moods and feelings, depicted by expressions. Come learn with me how to give expression to your characters. Explore simple techniques to illustrate. Do not worry even if you think you cannot draw. You will be amazed with your drawing skills.

You will need pencil and paper.

Khyati Solanki is a trained Montessori educator and specializes in early years program. She is a story teller, wall artist and often moderates workshops. She love reading children's books and narrating stories. She is currently working at Silver Oaks International School, Bangalore.
