Read-alouds
What is a read-aloud?
Reading aloud stories demonstrate that the child has comprehended the story or information texts and invites the reader to engage with the text. The reader uses pitch, pace, tone, speech volume, pauses, eye contact and facial expressions to deliver a successful read aloud. Reading aloud a story helps children develop fluency and it becomes a bridge between recognizing words and comprehending the text.
Merely, decoding words and reading aloud or reciting without comprehension is not the purpose of a read-aloud story.
