Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade

In third grade music, we will focus more on standard notation for rhythms and pitches. We will apply this to both singing and playing instruments, like the ukulele! We also will join second grade in learning about music from different cultures and perform in a Cultural Arts Night in December.

We have started off the year with a unit about music from North Carolina, which ties in with their Social Studies curriculum. Students will also continue expanding their music literacy and apply it by learning to play the recorders! Students about the instrument families, the orchestra, and various composers. We end this unit with a trip to see the NC Symphony. In fourth and fifth grade, students also have the opportunity to participate in chorus.

By fifth grade, students will use their knowledge of reading rhythms and notes to play instruments such as pianos, ukuleles, and bucket drums. They will also continue to work on developing their singing skills. In addition to performing music, they will also have opportunities to compose their own music.
