While I was an elementary school music teacher I discovered that the large majority of students had never heard the story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. This then becomes what they refer to as a “teachable moment”.
Taking it to the next level, we immediately began making up a musical about the “Lost Children of Hamelin”. The Fourth grade class even shot a small movie!
Learning how to read music was the primary goal in all our classes, after having fun of course. Fourth graders especially, are keen on dialogue and plot, with everybody wanting a part.
Surprisingly the auditions for the comedian part was pretty not funny, to the point where it actually became hilarious.
Well, try it yourself. I hope you enjoy our little musical!”
