A Webinar on Artificial Intelligence was organized on 25th May 2020 in association with KVCH (KV Computer Home Private Limited) Institute, Noida. The speaker for the session was Mr. Maneesh Rana from KVCH.
To bid farewell to the batch of 2017-20, the farewell party Adieu’20 was organized on the Zoom Platform on 25th September 2020.
Curioso’20 was an attempt by RamanuGen Society to indulge students from all disciplines and various colleges in the fun of solving interesting and tricky Mathematics related questions. The questions were designed in such a way that anyone with the understanding of high school Mathematics can solve them. This was a five week long (12 October - 14 November 2020) online Mathematics Quiz Competition in which 75 students from 40 different colleges/ institutions and 9 different cities actively participated. Each week, a new question was posted on our social media handles, and the participants had to submit their answers within the given time duration through the provided submission link. Weekly Top 3 Participants were declared and the overall winners of the five-week competition were provided certificates and cash prizes at the end of the event.
The Department organized four subject-specific competitions in the last academic year, which not only motivated the students to study and explore beyond the prescribed books, but also turned out to be beneficial for the preparation of their competitive examinations as well:
LaTeXify: The Coding Competition of LaTeX (three-week): In order to help the students in exploring their subject knowledge and beauty of coding in LaTeX and to boost their concepts and creative skills, this inter-college competition was organized spanning three weeks. Question papers were released on each Thursday, namely 15, 22 and 29 October 2020 for the participants on the social media handles.
Group Theory Battleground (GTBG) Competition (31 October and 1 November 2020): This inter-college competition was carried out in three rounds involving objective as well as descriptive questions based on the core paper: Group Theory taught in third and fifth semester.
LaTeX: Beamer Presentation Competition (13 November 2020): This event was specifically organized for the students of B.Sc. (H) Mathematics, third semester. They were required to prepare a presentation using beamer document class on the topic “Institute of Mathematics (Higher Education) in India."
Series Mindbend: An Online MCQ Competition (10th February 2021): In this inter-college competition, there were 75 MCQ based on the topic Series of the core paper: Real Analysis of second semester.
Five-week inter-college Meme Making Competition was organized (16 October – 18 November 2020) in which students had to showcase their creative skills for making different memes based on specific themes for five consecutive weeks.
Trivia Tuesday was an initiative by the society in which the famous facts/ figures about Mathematics were posted on social media handles of the society every Tuesday for seven consecutive weeks (13 October -14 November 2020). The posts were in both languages (English and Hindi) for greater reach.
The Fresher’s Party “Aagaz’20” was organized to welcome the newly admitted students of Batch 2020-23 on 15th January 2021. The first-year students as well as their seniors gave scintillating performances in the online mode with great enthusiasm and energy.
In collaboration with Teaching Learning Centre, Ramanujan College, the department organized a two-week Refresher Course in Mathematics during 16-30 March 2021. Following the four-quadrant approach, the course was offered in a highly flexible format. There were built-in assessment exercises and activities as part of the academic progression in the course along with pre-recorded videos and live lectures. The Programme was discipline specific and provided a forum to 1342 participants to keep themselves abreast of the latest advances in various areas of Mathematics with experienced and eminent resource persons from reputed institutions like Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), National Institute of Technology (NIT), Shiv Nadar University, University of Kashmir, University of Jammu, Delhi Technological University, South Asian University, TERI School of Advanced Studies and University of Delhi.
Ansatz Reloaded was an attempt by the society to maintain the legacy of their annual Mathematics Quiz: Ansatz by adopting it to an online format without any compromises. The quiz had two rigorous rounds. With 297 registrations, the first round was organized on 20th March 2021 using the platform Dare2Compete. The second round was organized at 4:00 PM on 21st March 2021 via Microsoft Teams. The Quiz Master for this round was Amrit Kumar, an Alumni of the department and currently pursuing his masters from IIT Hyderabad. The format of the quiz was pounce and bounce. The top three positions were bagged by the participants from University of Allahabad, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur and Jadavpur University.
Annual Departmental Fest “Projection’ 21” was a four-day online festival filled with great exuberance, excitement and enthusiasm. There were four main events in the fest which drew a huge participation from colleges and universities across India. The first event was a webinar (17th April 2021) on “How to crack job interviews” by Mrs. Richa Sharma, a seasoned training consultant which was attended by 200 students. The second event was “Parakh: Mathematical Reasoning Quiz” (20th April 2021) designed to check reasoning abilities, aptitude and mathematical awareness of the participants. The teams from Indian Maritime University Mumbai, University of Allahabad and IIT Patna emerged as winners. The third event was “Incendio: The Harry Potter Trivia” (22nd April 2021) based on the famous Harry Potter series of seven fantasy novels written by British author, J. K. Rowling. The participants from Hindu College, IIT Madras and IIT Delhi grabbed the top three positions. The last event was “Debatebots- The pursuit to dispute” (24th April 2021) on the topic “Should Government privatize the Public Sector to boost up the Indian Economy?” which was won by teams from NIT Warangal, Jaypee Institute of Information Technology and Hansraj College.
In collaboration with Academy of Discrete Mathematics and Applications (ADMA), the Department of Mathematics organized a five-day online Workshop on “Recent Trends in Domination and Graph Labelling (RTDGL 2021)” from 27th May 2021 to 31st May 2021. ADMA is a registered professional body functioning with the aim of promoting active and quality research in Discrete Mathematics and allied subjects. The workshop provided a platform to 584 participants and 11 renowned resource persons to disseminate knowledge on the two main themes of the workshop: Domination and Graph Labelling.
