Spring 2018

Milestones

February 2, 2018 - Obtained Necessary Materials

A group trip to Lowes was made to pickup:

  • Organic Matter (Mulch)
  • Sand
  • Topsoil

February 9, 2018 - Completed list of media compositions

A control (provided by the Kentucky LFUCG storm water manual) and four other compositions. Each composition had varying compositions of sand, Organic Matter (mulch) and Topsoil. The concentrations can be seen below.

February 16-23, 2018 - Completed Particle Size Testing and Gathered Results

Particle size testing was performed for each of the three materials. Materials were weighed and ran through sieves.

Information regarding particle size testing protocol and results can be found under Spring Test Results in the drop down menu.

March 2-16, 2018 - Ran Composition Tests and Compiled Results

Composition tests were performed using a constant head permeameter. Five trials were performed on each of the five samples.

Information regarding constant head permeameter testing and the obtained results can be found under Spring Test Results in the drop down menu.

March 23, 2018 - Performed Statistical Analysis

Statistical analysis included a two-tailed T-test, as well as an outlier test.

These results can be found under Spring Test Results in the drop down menu.

April 13, 2018 - Completed ASABE Proposal Form for Selected Soil Composition Standard

To begin the process of enforcing a soil composition standard as recommended by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE), the project proposal form available on their website was completed and can be seen below.
