Re : RTWA water update
Be advised that yesterday a leak in the Rainbow Tract Water Association line from the pump house to two of the cabins on the system (#s 39 and 38, 2126 and 2136 Rainbow Road) necessitated a repair. For a few hours today the water system was shut down while Lake Tahoe Plumbing and Heating replaced stop-and-drain valves near the cabins.
After any work done on the water system water lines, RTWA is required to chlorine-shock the well. The El Dorado County Environmental Management Division and the U.S. Forest Service have been cooperating with the RTWA during this project. They request that Rainbow Tract Water Association cabin owners flush their cabin water lines by letting all taps (interior and exterior) and shower heads run for about fifteen minutes (especially at cabins 38 and 39 near the leak) until you smell NO chlorine. Rank will submit a water sample to STPUD for coliform bacteria testing today.
Signs reminding you to flush your cabin water lines will be posted on each cabin at the front door.
Please contact Frank Kovac if you have any questions: (530-318-4542).

ANNOUNCEMENT
Water System
RTWA/Sent
Greetings, Rainbow Tract Water Association members,
I am sending you this email (and posting to the RTWA website) to inform you of a water issue at the Rainbow Tract:
Cabin 48 (the Bambachs) reported no water and no pressure last Thursday, June 13. Cabin 47 next door (the Kovacs) reported the same a day later. These two cabins share a common spur from the main water line. (A system map from 1993--attached below-- provides the best information.) Other cabins (53, 51, 49, for example) exhibited no issues with lack of water or pressure, though measurements indicate a slight drop in pressure from the norm (25 psi from an expected 40-60 psi.). So...
WHAT WE KNOW:
Two visits and three hours with Lake Tahoe P&H and three hours of diagnosis with their head technician today yielded a few scenarios, the most likely being a leak somewhere in the main line or a spur. Hard to detect because the loamy soil the Rainbow Tract sits on is so dry that water will seep down rather than bubble up to the surface. Tech has worked in the Rainbow Tract and at nearby Fallen Leaf Lake and is familiar with our systems.
Whatever and wherever the problem is, repair will likely include shutting down the system for an indeterminable amount of time (a half-day? a day? more?) for excavation and repair. we'll have to chlorine-shock the system, so keep an eye out for notices to that effect.
If you have water and good pressure, great! Enjoy it!
IF and WHEN any work is to be done on the system, you will be notified by email and info will be posted to the RTWA website.
WHAT WE DON'T KNOW:
What is causing the lack of pressure/water to Cabins 47 and 48 and diminishing the pressure to other cabins. It is possible that there is an obstruction in the line--perhaps an accumulation of rusted galvanized steel--from the inside of the water system pipes. Head tech at LTP&H thinks this is a less likely scenario.
If any other cabins yet occupied this season are experiencing any change in their water delivery. PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL TO rtwa@att.net WITH YOUR CABIN/LOT NUMBER TO REPORT ON THE WATER SITUATION AT YOUR CABIN: ARE YOU GETTING WATER? ARE YOU EXPERIENCING GOOD WATER PRESSURE? This information will help us pinpoint the problem and get it resolved as soon as possible.
As new information comes in, I will keep you informed. If no information is relayed, that will mean that I have nothing new to report. I appreciate that your summer plans may hinge on the use of your cabin, so I will let you know of anything important immediately.
If you have questions, please direct them to me at rtwa@att.net.

REMINDER NOTICE
Please be advised that a plumber is coming to work on a cabin in the RTWA TOMORROW Thursday, August 04, 2022, some time in the morning. The work may involve shutting down the well pump temporarily. If it does, cabins will be without water for the time it takes to make the repair.
Furthermore, if we do need to shut down the well, it will have to be chlorine shock treated before resuming water service, which means you will have to run all taps, faucets, etc., for a few minutes to be sure all chlorine is out.
Having said all that, it is entirely possible that the well pump will not have to be shut down while the water line is being repaired.
In either case, I will update you the minute I get any news RIGHT HERE ON THE ANNOUNCEMENTS PAGE OF THE RTWA WEBSITE. Please direct comments and communication to rtwa@att.net, or call or text me at 530.318.4542.

UPDATE: NO WATER SERVICE INTERRUPTION TODAY, 5/25/22
Greetings, all!
Seems it was a false alarm. Plumbing company reports that the problem was fixed without having to excavate, so there was no interruption of water service today.
Remember, though, that the first time at your cabin this season (if you haven't been in it since October 4, 2021), you should run water through all of your taps and showers for a few minutes in case there is a chlorine smell.) (The pump motor was replaced back then and was chlorine shock-treated.)
See you around the Rainbow Tract!

WATER SERVICE TO BE INTERRUPTED TOMORROW, MAY 25, 2022
I just hung up the phone with Lake Tahoe Plumbing and Heating who are doing work on one of the RTWA cabins. They need the water turned off tomorrow, Wednesday, May 25, "for one or two hours" in the early afternoon to repair a source line from the well.
NO WATER WILL BE AVAILABLE from the well tomorrow during that tiime. In addition, protocol dictates that the well be chlorine shock-treated after the work is done, which means you will need to run your water through all taps for a few minutes until any chlorine smell is gone.
When water service is restored, I will send you all another email to that effect. If you have any questions, please contact me at 530.318.4542 or rtwa@att.net.
Thank you, and apologies for the inconvenience.

Subject: Recreation Residence Notice of Updated Caldor Fire Closure
Dear Recreation Residence Permit Holders,
We are pleased to share that the Caldor Fire is 100% contained and a new forest closure has been issued to reflect the current burn area footprint in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Significant hazards are still present within the Caldor Fire area including ongoing repair and restoration activities, crew activity, use of heavy equipment, fire-weakened trees, and smoldering pockets of fuel. The new closure boundary still includes some recreation residence tracts. Please see details below for all tracts impacted by the changes.
If your tract is able to resume normal access under the new order, continue to follow the Terms & Conditions of your permit and Operating Plan. If your tract requires an exemption permit for access, you will receive additional information in a separate email. Refer to the attached news release and forest order for more information.
