Will I get help as a mentor during the onboarding process?
Yes! We will have an onboarding meeting to help make sure you are set for success. At this meeting, you will meet other mentors and the RAILS BIPOC Mentorship Group.
Do I have to be in a leadership position to be a mentor?
No, any BIPOC staff member can be a mentor.
Do I have to be a paraprofessional to be a mentee?
No, any BIPOC staff member can be a mentee.
How do we get matched with a mentor/mentee?
The BIPOC Mentorship Group will look at applicants’ interests and goals, and will try to match individuals based on their similarities.
Do I have to live in Illinois to participate?
Limited to Illinois library workers and students at this time.
Can retired BIPOC library workers participate as mentors?
Yes!
Who is involved? Can I be a part of this if I am an ally?
This group is led by BIPOC library staff members, for BIPOC library staff members. If you are not an individual who identifies as BIPOC, we kindly ask you to find a different mentorship program.
