Raid on Zeebrugge Blog

Alfred Hutchinson - Royal Marine Light Infantry

In 1994 Colin McKenzie traced Alf Hutchinson the last living survivor of the Raid and visited him in an old folks home near Guildford to record his memories of the Raid.

Sid Hesse - Royal Naval Air Service

In July 2000 Peter Chapman conducted a series of interviews with Sid Hesse, then aged 101 and living in a care home in Auckland New Zealand. Sid had joined the Royal Naval Air Service in 1917 and served under Commander Brock at the Royal Naval Experimental Station developing amongst other things the smoke screens used on the Raid. Sid took part in the Raid as a volunteer and was one of the last living survivors of Zeebrugge.

In 1994 Albert’s great nephew Colin McKenzie put together the story of Albert’s part in the Raid on Zeebrugge. This eventually appeared as a web site in the early days of the internet under the www.mckenzie.uk.com/zeebrugge This web site along with its associated email address colin@mckenzie.uk.com has now been superseded by the web site https://sites.google.com/view/raid-on-zeebrugge/
