Create Oral and Written Messages Competently to Accomplish Communicative Goals
This conflict resolution training program was completed in a small group of four for Dr. Allred's Conflict and Communication course. Our task was to design and facilitate a 30-minute, theory-based training workshop for a couple undergoing a conflict regarding Money Management, Uneven Feelings of Appreciation, Meta-Conflict, or Conflicting Career Goals.
As a team, we developed a full workshop experience, including an opening script, facilitator instructions, mediation activities, and guided worksheets that helped participants identify underlying emotions, clarify their needs in the relationship, and work towards a collaborative solution. Our training included conflict resolution concepts such as TRIP goals, conflict styles, nonviolent communication (observation, emotion, needs, request), and power currencies, to provide participants with practical tools they could use to resolve their conflicts. In this group assignment, I specifically created the worksheets for the Four Steps Process to Nonviolent Communication, TRIP Goals, Conflict Pattern Tracker, and parts of the facilitator guide in addition to the in-person 30 minute mediation.
This project satisfies the Communication Studies program outcome of Creating Oral and Written Messages Competently to Accomplish Communicative Goals, as my group and I had to be intentional with how we communicated each component of the workshop to ensure clear expectations and applicable worksheets for real conflict to help mediate the conflict.
