"Power dynamics in Dance Movement Therapy"

04/12/2022 GUEST SPEAKER for ATDT ONLINE SEMINAR
"Tendencias actuales en offline y online Danza Movimiento Terapia."
During the European Conference for Dance Movement Therapy held by @EADMT in Berlin this September 2022 I’ve presented my research around Power Dynamics in DMT in Online settings.
I’m honoured to have been invited by the colleagues of the Russian association of DMT @atdt_rus to present a seminar in their vast program of conferences and trainings for professionals to go deeper into the matter of power dynamics.
As therapists we have to remember that we have power, and it can manifests in many aspects of the therapeutic relation and setting, that are often underexplored.
In the seminar we will expand and investigate the potential blind spots layered into the topic of power. If dance movement therapists work to deepen their awareness of the implications of their own socio-cultural backgrounds and theoretical frameworks on their embodied approaches to the therapeutic and human relationship with their patients, they will be better able to practise embodied ethical decision-making in an ever more globalised and complex world.
Don’t miss out on this opportunity to explore, learn and share about a topic that is rarely approached directly in the profession, and that is ever more relevant nowadays in the personal, professional and socio-political layers of human life!
My research highlights a tendency in the field of DMT towards oppositional thinking and suggests the necessity to hold space for a non-binary approach to the matter of individual power and the relational potential of therapeutic action.

24/09/2022 PRESENTER for EADMT EUROPEAN CONFERENCE
"Dinámicas de Poder
en Danza Movimiento Terapia
e in online settings "
Awareness of the fundamental interconnections of theoretical, practical, and technological layers of power dynamics into the practice of DMT is fundamental for embodied ethical decision making and action taking, in an ever more globalised world.
This presentation hopes to offer a useful and thought provoking occasion for professionals to reflect on power as an integral part of the therapeutic work, especially for embodied disciplines.
From this premise the presentation discuss the power implications of practicing an embodied therapy online, by approaching practical themes and tools in traditional DMT settings and their correlates in online settings, substantiate by literature and practical examples. Specific somatic themes will be addressed like Vision (gaze, visual contact), Touch (initiation of contact), Space (boundaries, location, proximity, use of space, control), Time (control), Physical Dimensions, Basic Actions (involving strong weight combinations), Vertical plane, Pre-efforts and, Polarities.
06/11/2022 GUEST SPEAKER at DTA ONLINE SUMMIT
"Dinamiche di Potere
in Danza Movimento Terapia"
In this Summit I will be presenting my work, research, and recent publication about Power dynamics in dance movement therapy.
This presentation investigates power dynamics in dance movement therapy (DMT), potential blind spots layered into the discourse about power in the profession, and underexplored aspects of the manifestation of power in the therapeutic setting.
The findings of this study suggests that if dance movement therapists work to deepen their awareness of the implications of their own socio-cultural backgrounds and theoretical frameworks on their embodied approaches to the therapeutic and human relationship with their patients, they will be better able to practise embodied ethical decision-making in an ever more globalised world.
