Born in rural Vietnam, Quan moved to the United States with his family at the age of seven. At an early age, he showed an interest in math and science and displayed deep interest in how things work.
After participating in robotics programs such as Botball and FIRST Robotics Competition, Quan became increasingly interested in pursuing a career in engineering. This passion led him to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering at UCSD, but university proved to be a difficult time for him, as he struggled with mental health that made it difficult to focus on his studies.
Because of these challenges, Quan eventually took a hiatus in 2018 to focus on his mental health and well-being. After several years of hard work and dedication, he was able to return to UCSD in 2021 where he thrived, performing exceptionally well in his courses and demonstrating a deep commitment to learning and passion for engineering.
As a young graduating engineer, his career goal is to leverage his technical knowledge and skills to make a meaningful impact in the world. He aspires to combine his love of engineering and space exploration to contribute to human exploration of space.
His hobbies include tinkering with electronics, 3D printing, building custom mechanical keyboards, playing tabletop/board games, enjoying specialty coffee, and cooking Vietnamese and Japanese food. In his free time, Quan also enjoys giving back to the community at a local Buddhist monastery, practicing street photography, and spending time with his family.
