Venue
The conference will be hosted in the Grand Parade Building, at the University of Brighton, located in Brighton city centre. The conference will take place in the Sallis Benney Theatre and surrounding areas. The address of the conference venue is 58-67 Grand Parade, University of Brighton, Brighton, BN2 0JY.
Getting to Brighton
Delegates are requested to consider the impact of their travel on the environment and where possible choose low carbon options.
The city, situated on the south coast, is highly accessible, with Gatwick airport only 30 minutes by train, and London only one hour by train. The ports of Newhaven (~15-30 minutes train/car/bus) and Portsmouth (~1hr 30 minutes train/car/bus) are also close by.
For those choosing to drive, Brighton is easily accessible via the M27/A27 (from the west), the M23/A23 (from the north) and the M20/M23 (from the East).
Travel within Brighton and to the conference venue
The Sallis Benney Theatre at Grand Parade is in the city centre, almost opposite Brighton's famous Royal Pavillion. It is within walking distance of Brighton train station (15 minutes) and most other amenities, including our selection of recommended accommodation (below). Taxis can be found outside the train station entrance.
Travel to the field trip pick-up and drop-off venue
For those taking part in the fieldtrip, the coach leaves outside the front of the Cockcroft Buidling, which is on our University of Brighton Moulsecoomb campus. This is a good 45 minute walk along the Lewes Road from the city centre.
Alternatively, Buses (numbers 25, 28, 29) stop at the University of Brighton bus stop. These can be caught from the Old Steine bus stop (located outside the Royal Pavilion near the seafront) and other stops along the Lewes Road. The journey from the seafront to the University of Brighton bus stop takes about 10-15 minutes, traffic dependent.
Moulsecoomb railway station is approximately 200m from the Cockcroft Building and can be reached from Brighton station. Trains from Brighton station to Lewes, Seaford, Eastbourne, Hastings and Ore stop at Moulsecoomb station and take less than 10 minutes.
Parking
There are a number of council operated public car parks (typically multi-storey) in Brighton city centre close to the conference venue - but be warned, they are not cheap! For example, The Lanes car park, Regency Square car park, Trafalgar Street car park, London Road car park, NCP Brighton Centre car park, Churchill Square car park. The closest car parks to the conference venue are The Lanes car park (Black Lion Street) and the NCP Brighton Centre car park (Russel Road).
Brighton offers plenty of accommodation options from budget to high-end, catering to a diverse range of requirements. Delegates should arrange their own accommodation for the duration of the conference.
