Dear all! Last Friday (the 14th), QERC Canterbury organized a communication workshop led by Matt Walters. Matt is a professional communicant, who works for the Biology Department of the University of Canterbury. To know more about Matt, please, check out his profile. During the (very interactive) workshop, Matt talked about the different barriers that any scientist willing to communicate her/his research should be aware of, and how to design communication vectors in the most effective way following a 6 points approach: Objective, Audience, About me, Brainstorming, Planing and Engagement. Matt also provided some very useful tools such as the Hemingway application, an online tool that checks the fluency of your text. All workshop resources are available in the Workshop padlet that Matt designed for us. Feel free to let him a comment in the 'Feedback' section and don't forget to register for the upcoming Lightning Talk Competition (details below)!

The Joint Centre for Disaster Research (JCDR) hosted the inaugural meeting of the QuakeCoRE Emerging Researcher Wellington Chapter.
QuakeCoRE is a national network of leading New Zealand Earthquake Resilience Researchers. In line with this, in mid-2016, QuakeCoRE supported the establishment of Emerging Researcher Chapters (formerly known as ‘Student Chapters’) in Canterbury and Auckland. Wellington is now following suite with its own QuakeCoRE Emerging Researcher Chapter. The inaugural meeting was attended by PhD students and postdoctoral researchers from Victoria University of Wellington and Massey University.
The Emerging Researcher Chapter in Wellington aims to promote networking, collaboration, and knowledge sharing among members of the earthquake and disaster resilience community in the Wellington region.
