Inside me are two wolves, both are gay and I'm petting both of those good, dangerous dogs
Dan is a happy Pansexual with a desire to increase advocacy, representation and visibility of the queer community in mathematics. Catalysed by many of the other lovely queer people who attended BAMC 2024 in Newcastle, we set this whole shebang up and we strive to keep pushing for a better queer experience for everyone!
When not being consumed by Long Furbies, Dan is often studying waves here, there and everywhere - from quantum to space plasmas, but has no favourites (lies: water waves). Certified caffeind and happily distracted by anything dog related.
Inside me are two wolves, it's Tulio and Miguel from the Road to el Dorado and Both? Both is good.
Like most caffeine addict bisexuals, Kat struggles with decision making, including what should go in her bio. One of Kats main passions outside of research is demystifying academia and helping build community actions like the QEDNetwork means that we can be here, queer, and at the frontier of what the mathematics community has the potential to be. Kat also really likes bad puns, memes, and catchy sayings.
Her role in this mad venture as Tech Gremlin is assigned due to her experience as Maths Twitch Communicator and Discord Tzar-ness. If you have any issues on the techy side of this world, Kat's your gal!
Research wise, Kat is a Fluid dynamicist at heart, with a strong additional focus on interdisciplinary applied mathematics and collaborations with industry!
Inside me are two wolves, and also a third because I don't do binary
Adi is all about queering academia and challenging the outdated status quo, which is why she enjoys being involved in the QEDNetwork and other great initiatives within the mathematics community which champion representation and inclusivity. They have also been heavily involved with undergraduate and secondary school outreach initiatives at Queen Mary University of London during their PhD.
When not overcommitting to other ventures, Adi does research in a cool field called topological data analysis, which uses tools from pure mathematics to study shapes in data. In her spare time, Adi also enjoys knitting and crochet, chronically watching TikTok and YouTube, baking bread, cryptic crosswords and laughing at dumb memes (among other things).
Inside me are two geese, because they're just as fearsome as wolves
Elliot is a PhD student who's found a side passion for advocacy, representation, and any work that can help diversify the mathematical science fields. They run events at the University of Warwick with the aim of building spaces and representation for communities and identities that are currently under-represented in maths departments. They love to hear different mathematical metaphors that people use to explain gender.
Within academia, Elliot works in epidemiological modelling, in other words studying the spread of diseases using maths. They look at wildlife and plant diseases, but human diseases are interesting too. Outside of academia they will be crocheting, watching Doctor Who, or doing both of those things simultaneously.
Inside me are two wolves, one is watching Doctor Who (1963), the other is watching Doctor Who (2005)
Lena is a PhD student at the University of Kent who focuses on agent-based ecological models, whenever their OCD allows them to focus on something work related and not the timeline of Prime Ministers in Doctor Who.
Lena enjoys working with groups like the QEDNetwork and the Piscopia Initiative to try and build communities of those who might otherwise be isolated for who they are, and I am super thankful for the other gremlins for making this community begin to take shape.
When work isn't involved Lena enjoys baking, playing board games, and crying to television shows (some of which aren't Doctor Who).
Inside me are two wolves, one is off the ground so that the other can be on the ground.
Luciano is an Associate Professor (Teaching) at UCL Maths. He is the co-founder of the LGBTQ+ STEM @UCL Network and a member of the LGBTQ+ Equality Steering Group at UCL. He likes to get involved with iniatiatives that broaden perceptions of LGBTQ+ identities in STEM and nurture science/mathematics spaces where queer expression is visible.
Outside work, Luciano is a keen trapezist, often seen off the ground and upside down (defying gravity).
