Listen to my interview with Dr.Berry:
The Education and Career Action Plan (ECAP) assists the student in guiding their decisions about courses and activities they choose through middle and high school that align with their skills, interests, and aspirations related to career choices and post-secondary education. ECAP gives the student “a voice and choice” in personalizing their education. It is an ongoing, collaborative effort with the teachers, counselors, parents, and community that ensures a student’s post high school success for college, career and beyond, bringing relevance to real-world learning opportunities.
Students outline their secondary and postsecondary plans aligned to their career aspirations. The portfolio documents completed activities and the skills and knowledge developed through their ECAP process.
Students at QCUSD experience yearly requirements in each of the four areas starting in 6th grade. Teachers, counselors, administrators, and district leaders work together to ensure student have meaningful conversation about their future and can identify support systems for ensuring their educational plan aligns with their interest, skills, and passions.
