Identify the use of a topic sentence
Muslims accept the Qur'an as God's actual speech told to the Prophet Muhammad through the Archangel Gabriel over 1400 years ago. The Qur'an is recited as an act of worship in the original Arabic by Muslims in prayers. It is considered as the final revealed scripture for the guidance of mankind and addressed a multitude of subjects, such as:
The Qur'an contains 114 "Surahs" (chapters) that can be read independently.
Each Surah consists of "Ayahs" (verses). Each ayah is literally considered to be a "sign from God."
All Muslims (worldwide) recite the Qur'an in the original Arabic dialect.
Millions of Muslims (including non-Arab Muslims) memorize the Qur'an word for word in its entirety.
The Qur'an has not been changed, edited, or altered in any way from its original state.
Read the following excerpts from the Qur'an. Answer the following questions in groups and refer back to the text to support your answers.
1) What do you think each verse means?
2) Can you find similarities between these teachings, and the teachings of Christianity?
Share your insights with the class:
1) What can we learn from these similarities?
2) Make one suggestion on how we can appreciate other religions given our own set of beliefs.
3) How can we reconcile our religious differences?
