This is a very simple, 4 week class for kids who have never done any Python coding before, but are interested in it. Kids will have practice in class and are not required, but are requested to complete homework as extra practice. Every class will follow a basic schedule of reviewing homework, then lessons and exercises, as well as questions from students.
This course follows a curriculum based on a couple very simple, and key elements of Python. Starting with the first week, we build up, and every day reminisce on what we learned in the previous class using problem-solving warmups and exercises, allowing kids to code in and out of class.
Shaadana and Sanah Rajesh created this beginner Python curriculum, including lesson slides and coding activities. The original four-week sequence was adapted for workshops of five to six sessions, including review and practice.

Functions
In Class Practice: A Classic, Simple game, “Function A and Function B”
Homework: “Function Based Game”:
This is something of a final project for the kids, as this is the last homework they have, and they can apply everything they know to make a great game to show the friends they made in the class. Instructors will be available to answer any questions after classes end up to a week after.
This is a pretty lenient class, as homework is optional and not even graded. There are no tests or quizzes, but there are some basic rules students are required to follow.
Respect the instructors - They are here to help and teach you, and would love it if you were present in the moment.
Be engaged - You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to participate in this course. All we ask is that you follow along with the exercises and try your best with the homework.
General Behaviour Rules:
Be kind to classmates
Be kind to others
If you need to eat, or do other things, don’t be afraid to just turn off your video and do them quickly
Try to keep your video on when possible
Ask questions when you have them
Don’t blurt out
Every student will need some kind of device to take the class on, preferably a computer or laptop of some kind with a keyboard. We will be using Google Colaboratory for all homework and practice. There will also be a Google Classroom that all students will be added to on Week 1. The Zoom Link for every class, homework submission, and more will be found here.
Please make sure to follow these instructions for the Python class! Please read this before class. That way, we can spend less time on logistics and more time learning! Additionally, please make sure to be on time to each class!
Please use the Zoom chat or unmute to ask questions to any of the instructors. They are happy to help with any problems you may have!
Each software/website that we may use will have instructions or a slideshow showing you how to use it
Before Week 1 starts, please fill out the before classes survey that asks about your interest in learning Python
After Week 4 ends, please fill out the end of classes survey that asks about your interest in learning Python
There will be one main session for the lesson
The host will split students into breakout rooms for practice with an instructor (this may happen more than once)
Students will receive instructions on the optional homework at the end of class
If students have accurately completed all the in class activities, have received instructions for the homework, and have no remaining questions, they are free to leave class early or stay and start on the homework
When workshops begin again, you will be able to access the zoom link here to be able to join the class session.
Before class, please make sure you have set up Google Classroom. This will greatly help us finish class on time.

How to: Login to Google Classroom
The class will be split into breakout rooms of 6-8 students and 1 instructor. The instructor will be able to answer any questions the students have and will demonstrate the assignment the kids will be working on. When all kids in the breakout room have finished, they will be moved into the main session to wait for the rest of the class to finish.
We may not always get to the homework in class, so if you want to do the homework (which is highly recommended), you can click on the slideshows for that specific week, as every slideshow has a part that features the homework explanation and examples. The slideshows will always be available in Google Classroom.
