Call for papers: Revolutionizing Environmental and Energy Sustainability with Cutting-Edge Biochar-Based Catalytic and Remediation Applications in Biochar (Q1, IF 12.7)
Aims and Scope:
Given its advantages of cost-effectiveness, multiple functionalities, and tunable properties, biochar-based materials have been considered as promising and renewable materials for sustainable biorefineries and environmental remediations (such as in air, soil, and water), simultaneously solidifying both environmental and energy sustainability and achieving positive, planet-level impacts. However, the engineering and synthesis guidelines for biochar-based materials (e.g., catalyst) are still unclear while considering several major indicators of catalytic activity, thermal stability, environmental impacts, and economic feasibility. Therefore, in the context of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Carbon Neutrality strategy, novel and sustainable shifts in biochar-based catalytic and remediation applications are urgently needed to not only provide economic and social benefits but also to mitigate environmental issues resulting from current disposal and conversion processes.
This special issue aims to highlight the recent advances in production, characterizations, and applications of biochar-based engineered materials for environmental and energy sustainability.
Possible Topics:
Advanced productions and characterizations of biochar-based engineered materials (e.g., catalyst, advanced adsorbent)
Emerging applications of engineered biochar materials for sustainable development
Integrated application of engineered biochar materials and biomaterials
AI and machine learning for designing engineered biochar materials
Environmental impacts and economic feasibilities of biochar-based catalytic and remediation applications
The following special issue in Biochar is open for submissions. The submission deadline is Aug 30, 2024.
A Big Congratulation to my student for getting an offer for Dual PhD degree
A big congratulations to my student, Shin Ying, who got the dual Ph.D. offer from Ghent University, Belgium. This initiates a closer collaboration between UMT and Ghent University on biotechnology research. The student graduated from this programme will be awarded a PhD degree from Ghent University and also a PhD degree from UMT - a result from doing research and getting supervision from the supervisors from both universities.
Truly hope that Shin Ying can learn and experience the research and culture from both universities and continue to be excellent in her academic path.
Call for Papers in 1st International Conference on Sustainable Chemical, Energy and Environmental Engineering (SCE3 2023)
The department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering (ChEE), Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Kuala Lumpur, is organising the 1st International Conference on Sustainable Chemical, Energy and Environmental Engineering (SCE3 2023). The conference will be conducted in a hybrid mode: (a) physical participation in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and (b) virtual participation via a synchronous online meeting platform, on 8th- 9th March 2023.
Papers submitted for the SCE3 2023 will be subjected to the single-blind peer-review process before being accepted for publication in Chemical Engineering Transactions (Scopus-indexed Journal). Additionally, selected presented papers will be invited to extend the research article to publish in full-length article journals (subject to the review process of the journal), as follows:
• Energies (MDPI, ISI-indexed Q3 open-access Journal, 10%-100% APC waivers available)
• Cleaner Chemical Engineering (Elsevier, new open-access journal)
• Cleaner Energy System (Elsevier, new open-access journal)
