Colored Pencil Techniques

Dry Pastel Techniques

• Layer your colors

• Mix your colors - don't just use the colors from the box

• Build up to detail = create sections of blended color first >>> save the details for the end

• Be sure to use both blended and unblended areas

• Stay loose and work quickly in the beginning stages

• Be patient - sometimes you will need to work back in to areas that you thought were already complete

• Avoid using black - use dark browns and other dark colors instead

Charcoal Techniques

• Lay down the darker areas first

• Blend and move the charcoal with your finger

• After blending, add ltextures and lines over the top
