Gathering information

Using google forms, we created a survey to gather perspectives that people developed after being educated about women in history in Andrea´s class. We saw that there were people that classified certain jobs for men and some for women. There were also other people that said that women can do any job. There were a variety of answers and perspectives in different children. This lead us to think if it affected the PYP Exhibition or it didn't . Therefore, we interviewed Julieta Galeano.

Interview with Julieta

The interview with Julieta helped us learn in deep detail what the PYP Exhibition is about. Our local issue, which is gender Inequality, has been also presented in this interview and helped by giving us answers about the true perspectives our school has about the topic.

Interview with John Wells

During our interview with Jhon Wells, he had commented to us about employees and teachers in our school. One of the questions that helped us dig deeply into gender inequality in daily lives was: Why are there more women teaching in primary than men? He had answered us that it was a pure coincidence. This opened our inquiry to interview Claudia Chavarro.

Interview with Claudia Chavarro

  • After trying to look for more information with Jhon Wells, we developed the curiosity to dig into more detail about the topic of hiring employees at school. After thinking about how we can collect more information, our teachers recommended us to interview Claudia Chavarro (Also known as the person in charge of hiring teachers and staff). She, was the only one we have interviewed that had commented on this issue because of her experiences working on human resources.

  • She had commented that during her years of working, she had noticed that there were more women than men teaching in primary. She gave us the theory based on that observation that this was based on stereotypes at work. She had also said that words such as "Woman are more sensitive and just naturally teach kids better" was a reason because of this stereotypes exist.

Interview with Blanca Duran

  • During our Inquiry, we interviewed Sarah´s aunt who is an activist, and also works in the political side of Bogota. As she works in the governmental side of Bogota ,she also looks for the educational part and might also present gender inequality issues based on the stereotype that women can not be powerful and important people.

  • We interviewed her to ask how she felt in her job and what the government is doing based on gender inequality. Blanca Duran said that the Colombian Institute of Human Rights (ICDH) is working on ways to give support to individuals or families who suffer from gender inequality.

Activity with Preschoolers

In most interviews ,we noticed that all these gender inequality issues come from stereotypes that people have created, so we were thinking if these influence strongly in the childhood of many kids here at school.

We planned a meeting with Lucia Vengoechea Lafaurie, also known as the transition teacher in preschool to use one of her classes to make a small activity. It consists on telling the children to draw a fire fighter and a doctor to see if they would draw a woman or man.
