About Us

The Prince William Librarians’ Association was formed in 1991 as an affiliate of the Virginia Educational Media Association (VEMA). In 1996 PWSLA received the Intellectual Freedom Award from VEMA, enabling PWSLA to begin its own grant programs.

The VEMA membership voted to change the name to Virginia Association of School Librarians (VAASL) in November 2011. The purpose of VAASL is the improvement of learning in Virginia through effective and efficient use of instructional media and technology. VAASL is a state affiliate of the American Association of School Librarians.
