The group is a combination of teachers and parents that work together to support families, students and staff of the school. If you have a student at Plover-Whiting, you are part of the PTO!
There are about 5 meetings per year, held in the evenings. Attending is a great way to learn more about the school, meet staff, ask questions and hear about upcoming events. Specific dates and times for the year will be sent home in the fall. You are welcome to come to just one meeting or all of them.
There are multiple opportunities sent home via email that you can donate items or time towards throughout the year. If everyone volunteers just one or two hours of time during the year, it can make such a difference for the school!
These opportunities may include stuffing envelopes for the race for education, donating candy for trunk or treat, bringing in food for teacher meals during conferences, volunteering an hour to help students with holiday store, or many other opportunities, just check your email!
We’ve had one major fundraiser each year for the past several years (Race for Education) where we ask for your help in providing addresses of family and friends that might be willing to donate to the school. A team of parents do the work of sending out requests and the students have a fun day racing around the track.
The one fundraiser has been able to support the purchase of many things each year but a few examples: educational curriculum, playground upgrades, offset field trip expenses, math cards for families to use at home, books for the classroom and gym equipment to name a few items.
This year there are also fundraising opportunities through the Hostel Shoppe, and a Culver's Share Night.
Some specific items the PTO funded the last school year include: a new accessible orbital for the playground, additional attachments for the BlazePod equipment in Phy Ed and the educational program BrainPop for teachers. The PTO also provides support for school and PTO events including teacher appreciation week, Holiday Store, the STEAM fair, Trunk or Treat and the Annual Talent Show.
Watch for opportunities as they come in the fall and throughout the school year to get involved. Attend a meeting, agree to help on an event committee, bring a new idea, donate an item to a sponsored event, ask questions.
