As a returning member of Mu Alpha Theta, you will be required to fulfill 1 hour for the quarterly service/participation requirement from the 1st quarter to the 3rd quarter of the school year. You have 3 options to choose from each quarter. Failure to meet the quarterly requirement will result in probation and/or dismissal from Mu Alpha Theta. Mu Alpha Theta members can participate in Math Team’s lunchtime contests for 30 minutes of credit per lunchtime in S50 to fulfill the quarterly service/participation requirement. You must turn in your test before your time is up or it will not be accepted. You must be in room S50 within the first 7 minutes of lunch and stay until 5 minutes before lunch ends. This contest is on a first-come first-serve basis. Your service/verification credit will be posted on the Service/Participation Log within 5 days.
Mu Alpha Theta members can help a MATH teacher with various tasks during a scheduled time to fulfill the required service/participation (Reminder: 2 lunchtimes = 1 hour). You must independently schedule a time with a math teacher, without disrupting class time. Any scores or grades seen while helping a teacher must remain confidential. You will NOT receive credit for helping a computer science teacher or family member.
Mu Alpha Theta members can participate in Mu Alpha Theta’s lunchtime workshops for 30 minutes of credit per lunchtime in S50 to fulfill the quarterly service/participation requirement. You must be in room S50 within the first 7 minutes of lunch and stay until 5 minutes before lunch ends. Workshop materials are on a first-come first-serve basis. Your service/verification credit will be posted on the Service/Participation Log within 5 days.
Please note that project workshops are not guaranteed to be provided every quarter.
For Options 1 and 3, you do not need to turn in any verification.
For Option 2, you must have the teacher verification form completed and signed on the day of your service.
All forms and tests must include your name, graduation year, and correct Mu Alpha Theta ID (No credit will be given for paperwork without your ID).
Submit the required verification in the box labeled “Mu Alpha Theta Verification” in room S50 by the quarterly due dates. Please do not disrupt class.
It is your responsibility to check the Mu Alpha Theta Service/Participation Log for your membership status and confirmation that your verification form(s) has been received. It will be updated on a weekly basis.
LATE AND/OR INCOMPLETE VERIFICATION FORMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
Failure to fulfill a quarterly service/participation requirement will lead to being placed on probation and given extra service hour(s) to fulfill as a penalty.
Once on probation, you will remain on probation for the rest of the school year.
Failure to label all forms and tests with your correct Membership ID number will lead to a warning upon the first incidence. You will be given an extra ½ hour of service/participation upon subsequent incidences.
Missing a previously scheduled volunteer session with a math teacher may result in a penalty given by the teacher.
You will be dismissed from Mu Alpha Theta if you:
Fail to fulfill a missed and/or current quarterly requirement (including extra penalty hours) while on probation.
Fail to attend a mandatory meeting while on probation.
Fail to fulfill the service/participation requirement for two consecutive quarters.
