The learning method that teachers often use in learning is Learning Cycle 5E. The Learning Cycle 5E learning model is divided into several phases, namely:
a. Engagement (Introduction)
At this stage, the teacher tries to arouse and develop interest with the curiosity of students about the topic to be taught. This is done by asking questions about factual processes in everyday life (which are in accordance with the topic discussed). Thus, students will provide a response / answer, then the students' answers are used as a guide by the teacher to find out the initial knowledge of students about the topic to be discussed.
b. Exploration
In this phase, learners are given activities that can involve active learners to test predictions and hypotheses through alternatives taken, record observations and discuss with other learners. Thus, learners have the opportunity to work together in small groups without direct teaching from the teacher. In this phase, the teacher acts as a facilitator.
c. Explanation
Activities in this phase aim to complement, refine and develop concepts obtained by learners. Learners are required to explain the concepts being studied in their own sentences. In this phase, learners discover the terms of the concepts being studied.
d. Elaboration
This learning activity directs students to apply the concepts that have been learned, make connections between concepts and apply them to new situations through advanced practicum activities that can strengthen and expand the concepts that have been learned.
e. Evaluation
Learners are given questions to diagnose the implementation of learning activities and determine students' understanding of the concepts obtained. The evaluation stage is also the stage where the teacher reconfirms that students have understood the subject matter through repetition questions. The most interesting thing in DSM and the education level in the Philippines, students do not give jugde responses to other students when answering either the correct answer or the incorrect answer.
Textbooks and Workbook
During observation DSM uses a variety of textbooks and workbooks tailored to different grade levels to ensure students have access to structured content and exercises.
Multimedia Presentations
Teachers incorporate multimedia presentations, including PowerPoint, videos, and animations, to make lessons more engaging and visually appealing.
Interactive Whiteboards
In dsm, teachers use an interactive screen called scubla. These are used for dynamic presentations and interactive lessons, allowing students to engage directly with the content.
Student-Created Content
In DSM, students are encouraged to create their own materials, such as posters or digital presentations, to demonstrate their understanding.
During lesson observations at dsm, teachers use Online Learning Platforms such as Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams to organize assignments, communicate with students, and track progress. Educational Apps: The school uses apps and software such as Kahoot!, Quizlet, and Duolingo for interactive learning and exercises.
The assessments conducted by teachers at DSM include quizzes and summative assessments. Quiz is conducted when one lesson material has been completed to measure students' understanding of the material that has been taught. While summative assessment will be carried out at the end of the block
