August,10, 2025: The Purdue NORD Student Chapter is hosting a Summer Festival to advocate for and support research, science, and education in rare disorders across the West Lafayette campus. Featured speakers will include Dr. Wade Clapp (Indiana University), Dr. Kasturi Haldar (University of Notre Dame), Dr. Neil Baker, Dr. Rice, and Dr. Jeff Haddad (Purdue University), who will present on various aspects of rare disorders. More details will be shared in upcoming flyers to be distributed to the public.

May 13, 2025: We are thrilled to announce that the Purdue University Chapter of NORD Students for Rare has been awarded $1,155 by the Purdue Graduate Student Government through the Graduate Student Organization Grant Allocation Committee (GSOGA). This generous support will directly enhance our efforts to raise awareness, promote research, and foster collaboration in the field of rare disorders. We are incredibly grateful for this opportunity and excited to continue growing our impact on campus and beyond. May 8, 2025: The Purdue NORD Student Chapter has officially joined the Women’s Global Health Institute Student Chapter. Behnaz will be contributing to the team in her new role as Diversity and Inclusion Chair.

May 2, 2025: We are thrilled to announce that Andy, a graduate student from Boston University, will be completing his Medical Public Health Practicum with the Purdue University Chapter of NORD Students for Rare. Andy will be mentored by Dr. Janet Sherman, a dedicated mentor in the field of public health and a long-standing supporter of rare disease education. Under her guidance, Andy will engage with our chapter's initiatives and contribute to meaningful projects aimed at improving visibility and support for individuals affected by rare diseases.

March 14, 2025: Behnaz Akbari was selected as a member of Education Committee at the American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy (ASGCT). This is a professional, non-profit organization that advances knowledge, awareness, and education in gene and cell therapies to alleviate human disease. Congratulation!

February 18, 2025: We are excited to announce that our Purdue University Chapter of NORD Students for Rare is hosting a symposium, One Voice for the Rare: Awareness, Advocacy, Action, in honor of Rare Disease Day, February 28th from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Purdue University, at the Stewart Center, Room 310, 3rd Floor. January 27, 2025: The Purdue University Chapter of NORD Students for Rare received funding ($500) from the Residence Hall Association (RHA) for the World Rare Disorder Day Symposium that will be held on February 28th, 2025, at Purdue University.

January 16, 2025: Professor Anthony J. Brookes, Ph.D., from the Department of Genetics, Genomics, and Cancer Sciences at the University of Leicester (United Kingdom), will be giving a presentation on February 3rd at 12 PM. Please save the date!

December 5, 2024: The Purdue University Chapter of NORD Students for Rare will be collaborating with The United Leukodystrophy Foundation (ULF), a non-profit, voluntary health organization devoted to funding cutting-edge research and providing patients and their families with vital information and medical referrals. Based in Illinois, the Foundation plays a crucial role in advancing support for the leukodystrophy community. Our chapter is incredibly proud to be connected with ULF and its impactful mission.

November 13, 2024: The Purdue University Chapter of NORD Students for Rare will be hosting its Third Seminar, "Bringing Light to Rare Diseases: An Awareness Event," on November 21st at the Stewart Center (STEW) at Purdue University.

October 31, 2024: The Purdue University Chapter of NORD Students for Rare received over $400 gift through a crowdfunding project. This initiative, titled Raising Awareness for Rare Disorders, was conducted under the Purdue for Life Foundation.

August 7, 2024: Dr. Janet Hope Sherman, (MD, MA), MRI, MRA, MRV, MRI Fellowship Trained, Board Certified Diagnostic Radiologist from Boston University School of Medicine, will be presenting MRI and MRA of Rare Vascular Disease: Introduction to Head and Neck Vasculitis and Vasculopathy today.

July 7, 2024: The Purdue University Chapter of NORD Students for Rare will be hosting a virtual seminar for rare disorders in Early August. Robert V. Stahelin, (Ph.D.), Retter Professor of Pharmacy Borch Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology and Dr. Janet Hope.Sherman (MD,MA), a board certified diagnostic radiologist, and fellowship trained in magnetic resonance imaging from Boston University, School of Medicine are the invited speakers to discuss rare viruses and head & neck vascular disorders including vasculitis, respectively.
