About us

The Purdue NORD Student Chapter for rare is a non-profit university student organization affiliated with NORD, dedicated to supporting students who live on campus. It serves as a platform for students to share their voices and perspectives on rare disorders, providing valuable input to shape activities and resources that guide individuals through the challenging journey from diagnosis to pursuing therapies.

Our chapter prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring that all students, patients, and families are represented and supported. We aim to foster student engagement in all fields, particularly, biomedical sciences and human health fields while promoting patient advocacy for students and their families.

In addition to these goals, the chapter organizes diverse social and educational plans on campus, manages community initiatives, advocates for student needs, and connects members with NORD. By doing so, we strive to create a sense of community and belonging for Purdue’s on-campus students while recognizing the contributions of our members.

Target Audience

Scientists and Researchers

o Planning to cooperate with the pathologists, chemists, physicists, pharmacists, clinical laboratory directors, and laboratory diagnostic providers, healthcare administrators, laboratory quality control and standards scientists to conduct research studies in rare disorders.

Patients

o Promoting patient equality and increasing awareness through brochures, cards, fact sheets, and flyers, and Power Points with preserving human dignity, and confidentiality

o Speaking on behalf of patients to safeguard the right level of care, facilitating open dialogue, clarifying, or challenging guidance or treatment with senators, medical doctorates, and those who are at higher administrative roles to raise the voice of patients.

Mission

Our mission centers on raising awareness, educating, and advocating for rare disease research and challenges. We strive to foster a supportive community for those affected.

Crowdfunding Project

The Purdue University Chapter of NORD Students for Rare received over $400 gift through a crowdfunding project. This initiative, titled Raising Awareness for Rare Disorders, was conducted under the Purdue for Life Foundation.
