Calculus 1 Readiness
Completing a math/stat/physics major in 4 years requires that you are ready to start in calculus 1 (MA 16100/16500; not MA16010!) during your first semester at Purdue.
If you are able to start in calculus 2, 3, or beyond based on AP/transfer credit, that's totally fine! Calc 1 is a lower bound on where you have to start.
Use the ALEKS assessment to obtain a score of at least 85 to be calculus 1 ready. Do this before your AAP appointment for best results!
The cutoff scores for SAT/ACT/ALEKS/Purdue courses are listed below.
SAT-M ≥ 670
ACT-M ≥ 29
ALEKS ≥ 85
MA 158 ≥ B-
AP Precalculus Exam score ≥ 4
SAT-M ≥ 570
ACT-M ≥ 24
ALEKS ≥ 60
MA 153 ≥ C-
SAT-M ≥ 530
ACT-M ≥ 21
ALEKS ≥ 45
If you cannot start in calculus 1, you can start in either precalculus (MA 158) or college algebra (MA 153). This will add one (MA 158) or two (MA 153) semeters to your 4-year plan.
AP/IB/A-Level Credit
Determine what credit you have coming in from AP, IB, or A-Level Credit. The table below maps what scores of 3, 4, and 5 on the AP exams translate to.
You can also use this table to enter all of your scores at once.
Undistributed credit (e.g. 1XXXX or 2XXXX) does NOT meet degree requirements!
The official Purdue links are here:
AP Credit (I like my table below better since it displays all the scores at once. The Purdue table is "official," though.)
ALL outside credit MUST be sent to the Office of Admissions!
Transfer Credit
Use the transfer credit equivalency guide to determine if any dual credit courses taken from other universities are equivalent to Purdue courses.
Undistributed credit (e.g. 1XXXX or 2XXXX) does NOT meet degree requirements!
ALL outside credit MUST be sent to the Office of Admissions!
