Mia's Spanish-speaking abuela has come to live with her and her family, but Mia, who speaks English only, has trouble communicating with her Abuela as quickly as she thought she could. She labels things to help her Abuela, but it's a slow process. One day Abuela, shows her a red feather dropped by a parrot that lived in her Mango tree.
Mia convinces her mom to buy a parrot from the pet store. They name him Mango. Soon their relationship becomes closer and an exchange of bilingual words in Spanish, English, and Squwakish, become a part of everyday conversations in the household as they develop a deeper bond between them.
