In the first week of Game Studies, Mr. Charles introduced the course, covering game mechanics, narrative design, and the cultural impact of games. He previewed future assignments focused on applying theory to creative projects, emphasizing teamwork. We formed groups of six for semester-long collaboration. The session set a strong foundation, and I’m excited to explore game design and theory further.
In Week 2 of Game Studies, we played a Malaysian board game centered on creating funny word combinations, testing our creativity and quick thinking. After several rounds to grasp the mechanics, we tried an online version, but bugs hindered smooth gameplay. Despite this, the experience underscored the importance of intuitive design and challenges in digitizing physical games.
In Week 3 of Game Studies, we brainstormed ideas for our board game project. Each member shared unique concepts, and after discussing pros and cons, we voted to choose the most engaging idea. This collaborative process emphasized the importance of teamwork and consensus in game design.
In Week 4, we focused on planning our board game project, finalizing mechanics, objectives, and design elements. We prepared a presentation to outline the game’s theme, rules, and features, then began designing the board and components. This week marked a key step in turning our ideas into a concrete plan.
In Week 5, we concentrated on planning our board game project by finalizing its mechanics, objectives, and design elements, and began creating the board and components. This week was crucial in transforming our concepts into a detailed plan for development.
In Week 6, we worked on refining our board game project by defining its mechanics, objectives, and visual design elements. We also started developing the board and components, taking significant steps toward turning our ideas into a clear and actionable plan.
In week 7, Dr. Charles was in Singapore, thus there is no class. Therefore, during the week of independent study, we go ahead and get everything ready for the play test.
Indepentend study week, no class. But we have guther tgt for play test in campus.
Since there are no longer any lectures session. Then for this week just nothing......
Dr. Charles wants to see the playtest results from each group in week 10, but due to the game item wasn't ready yet, we just chat to him for his advanced opinion.
Since DR. Charles stated that attendance is optional for the week11 of classes 😙............ but we still get together to discuss and finish our assignment to further enhance the fun of our game.
There will be no more lectures, and tutorial classes are on holiday! 🤩
