During this period of 15 weeks, I have a better understanding of what game development is like, and I was clearly underestimating how much work was needed to complete this module. The process of making a game, from the idea to testing & balancing, was a unique experience where we got to see that the understanding of a new game is a learning curve, those who knew similar games would have an easier time understanding our design and gameplay elements, whereas those who are new to the social deduction genre maybe lost and overwhelmed with information. Additionally, our game does lack many elements and may be imbalanced on some occasions, we understand that there is room for improvement. I hope for us to continue working on this game even after we finish this module and hopefully publish it in the near future.

This module was quite fun to do, despite the challenges. I didn’t expect there would be a module where we’d make our own game. It really helped me understand the process of game development, with lots of brainstorming and playtesting to make sure the mechanics made sense and didn’t make the game too long or complicated.
I wish we had been more organized and had more time to really flesh it out, because it was genuinely fun to play during the playtest. The gameplay was fast-paced, and every round felt different. Unfortunately, a lot of us had exams, papers, or other final projects at the same time, so reconvening with the project was tricky. It’s not really an excuse, but it did happen. I promise to do my best to manage my modules better next time.

Over these 15 weeks, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of game development, realizing I had underestimated the effort involved. The journey from concept to testing was a valuable learning experience, especially in balancing gameplay for both familiar and new players. While our game has room for improvement, we’re excited to continue refining it and aim to publish it in the future.
