Instructions for the completion of Comprehensive Evaluations
We are excited to launch our new Comprehensive Resident Evaluation Program, designed to provide our residents with robust, competency-based feedback and support their professional growth. As an attending pediatrician and faculty mentor, your participation is crucial to the success of this initiative.
Your Role as a Faculty Mentor:
Each faculty mentor will be paired with two resident learners. Your primary responsibility is to observe, guide, and evaluate your assigned residents throughout the academic year.
Evaluation Meetings: Expectations and Preparation
You will be invited to a lunchtime meeting held twice a year (in the 2nd and 4th quarters of the academic year). These meetings are a cornerstone of our program, fostering a collaborative approach to resident evaluation.
Before each meeting, you are expected to:
Prepare a Competency-Based Evaluation: For each of your two resident mentees, complete a preliminary evaluation based on the competencies outlined by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). This evaluation should reflect your observations and assessment of their progress in areas such as patient care, medical knowledge, professionalism, and communication skills.
Come Prepared to "Present": Be ready to concisely share your thoughts and assessment on each ABP competency for each of your residents with the broader group of participating faculty. This is an opportunity to discuss your observations and initial evaluations.
During the Meeting:
You will "present" your competency-based evaluations for your residents.
Other participating faculty members will have a brief opportunity to offer suggested changes or comments to your preliminary comprehensive evaluation for each resident. This collaborative discussion aims to refine and strengthen the feedback provided to our residents.
After the Meeting: Formalizing the Evaluation
Following the lunchtime meeting, you, as the primary mentor, will be responsible for formally completing the comprehensive evaluation for each of your resident mentees.
This official evaluation must be submitted within the New Innovations platform.
We appreciate your commitment to resident education and your active participation in this vital program. Your thoughtful contributions will significantly impact our residents' development.
