PEAC
Physician Education And Assessment Center
This curriculum is designed to enhance your outpatient pediatric knowledge and teaching skills through a structured, progressive learning experience.
Your Weekly Module Preparation:
Before Each Y-Week: You will be assigned two (2) core continuity clinic modules to complete prior to the start of your scheduled Y-Week. These modules are tailored to your residency year (R1, R2, R3) and will align with the progressive curriculum.
Module Completion: Dedicate time to thoroughly review both assigned modules.
Teaching Selection: From the two completed modules, select one (1) module that you will be prepared to informally teach to the group during your clinic week.
Teaching During Y-Week:
Informal Teaching: During available downtime in your clinic week, you will lead an informal discussion or brief teaching session on your chosen module. This is an opportunity to reinforce your learning and practice teaching skills.
Content Focus: Be ready to summarize key concepts, discuss challenging aspects, or present a relevant case related to your chosen module.
Learning & Feedback:
Annual Completion: This structure will ensure you complete 12 core primary care modules each year.
Teaching Feedback: You will receive specific, real-time feedback on your teaching skills from a faculty mentor on 6 different occasions throughout the year.
You'll notice quiz elements within each module. These scores are designed to help guide your individual and group learning. While I, as the administrator, can view these scores, they will NOT be used as part of your evaluations, especially since many of you will complete modules as a group.
We hope you find this new opportunity a helpful addition to your learning! As this is a new curriculum, we anticipate some minor adjustments along the way. Please share your feedback and any effective or creative ways you and your faculty mentors use these modules so we can continuously improve the experience for everyone.
Pre-Y-Week Preparation:
Access Review Guides: You will be provided with module review guides for the assigned resident modules in advance of their Y-Week. Please familiarize yourself with the content of these modules.
During Y-Week - Your Role:
Observe & Support: Aid residents by observing their informal teaching sessions during clinic downtime.
Provide Additional Teaching: Offer additional perspectives, clinical pearls, and deepen the discussion on the module content.
Real-time Feedback: Provide constructive, real-time feedback to the resident specifically on their teaching skills. Focus on clarity, accuracy, engagement, and communication style. This feedback is crucial for their professional development.
Goal: Your active participation ensures residents receive comprehensive learning, valuable teaching experience, and targeted feedback, fostering their growth as future pediatricians and educators.
