Student Officers for the 2022-2023 academic year

Are you interested in joining our team?

We are looking for other student officers to help lead our club! If you want a resume boost, to build your skills, or to meet new people, we would love to talk with you about what you're interested in contributing or learning through leading. Please shoot us an email at gisclub@pdx.edu.

Annie O'Shea

President
Hello! I recently completed an M.S. in Environmental Education from Southern Oregon University and have a B.A. in Elementary Education with a focus in science from Humboldt State University (now Cal Poly Humboldt). I am working on the GIS Graduate Certificate here at PSU. I have lived all over the place, and I feel most at home in the redwood forests and cold rocky beaches of far northern California. I am excited to bring people together and host fun events for the club, especially folks who are new to the field. I love to explore the Pacific Northwest and find cool rocks all along the way!

Luis Caro

Vice President
Luis is a second-year Master of Urban and Regional Planning student and a PPDA Scholar at Portland State University, focusing on transportation, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and environmental planning. Luis comes from California and he enjoys making maps and learning how to use qualitative and quantitative spatial information to solve urban problems. Luis graduated from San Francisco State with a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies and Planning and a minor in Geography.  Luis recently worked with the San Francisco Planning Department on updating their general plan to include an Environmental Justice framework. Luis likes to go to concerts, play video games, swim, and take his cat out on walks in his free time.

Ben Hampton

Treasurer
Ben is a post-bac geography major and GIS minor.  He is originally from Sheridan, Oregon, is interested in oak habitat restoration, and is a dedicated practitioner of taijiquan and baguazhang.  He is the current club treasurer and is excited to learn from others in the GIS community.

Lise Ferguson

Education Coordinator

Lise is enrolled in the Master of Urban and Regional Planning program, with a focus on active transportation (biking, walking, skating, rolling, etc). She grew up on a mossy rock floating around in front of Seattle, ultimately graduating from the University of Washington with a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies. Therefore she is dead set on promoting her tree-hugger values by altering the urban landscape to be more fun, safe, and accessible for everyone (not only folks in cars). She is still pretty fresh to GIS but finds it fun and interesting, and wants to use it in her future career as a transportation planner.

Robin Gast

Secretary and Community Outreach

I'm a junior transfer student from Shakopee, Minnesota, majoring in Geography and double-minoring in Geographic Information Systems and Water Resources. I've previously worked as a union organizer with Starbucks Workers United, and concurrently as a Starbucks supervisor across multiple stores. I'm fairly new to GIS as a whole, but I'm excited to bring my organizational experience to this club, and also to learn from everybody else!

Check back at a later date for Robin's picture!
