Start with the video overview ๐
Then use these quick guides when you need them ๐
Your journey through PALS unfolds through guided conversations with AI, starting with creating your unique company profile:
Start at the Company Launch Pad, where you'll have a conversation that establishes your company's foundation:
Choose your industry and market position
Define key characteristics of your company
Set the stage for all future interactions
For each assignment, you'll work with a specialized GPT that:
Reads your company profile
Customizes the assignment to your context
Guides you through key decisions
Helps you apply course concepts to your specific situation
As you progress through assignments:
Each conversation builds on previous decisions
Your company evolves through your choices
At key moments, you'll update your profile to reflect major changes
Every student's journey is unique because:
GPTs adapt to your company's context
Decisions reflect your company's situation
Solutions are tailored to your specific challenges
Your company's story unfolds through your choices
Think of it like playing a role-playing game where you're the CEO, and each assignment is a new chapter in your company's story. The GPTs are your guides, helping you navigate decisions while teaching you essential business and technology concepts.
For every credit hour of a course, students should expect:
1 hour in class
2-3 hours of independent work
For this 3-credit course, that traditionally means:
3 hours in class
6-9 hours of independent work
Total: 9-12 hours per week
The simulations are carefully structured to respect student time while ensuring deep learning:
Students spend an average of 2.1 hours on a typical assignment
This means PALS actually requires less time than traditional course expectations, while providing:
Flexible scheduling (complete assignments when convenient)
Clear time boundaries (no open-ended assignments)
Focused, productive work sessions
Practical skill development
๐Documentation Guide
Each simulation requires documenting key information to capture important decisions and insights. This standardizes how learning outcomes are documented and ensures thorough understanding of course concepts.
Complete your simulation conversation first
Download the documentation template
Review your conversation to extract required information
Fill out all template sections using details from your simulation
Submit with other deliverables (conversation link and summary slide)
Reference your conversation thoroughly - don't rely on memory
Ensure every section of the template is completed
Use specific details from your simulation, not general statements
Keep responses clear and concise
Double-check that extracted information accurately reflects decisions made
This documentation must be completed after your simulation
All information should come directly from your conversation
Every field in the template requires a response
The completed template helps demonstrate your understanding
Documentation will be graded on accuracy and completeness
โญ Example Documentation Guides
Each simulation requires creating a one-slide summary to capture key decisions and insights. This standardizes how learning outcomes are documented and helps build presentation skills.
Download the slide template specific to your simulation by clicking the ๐ icon beneath the corresponding image
Fill in each placeholder with your information:
Update the title with your company name
Replace bullet points as directed in the template
Complete talking points following the template prompts
Keep each talking point to 3 sentences maximum
Focus on being clear and concise
Connect decisions to your company's specific context
Follow the prompts in the template exactly as written
The template provides specific guidance for what to include
Every placeholder must be replaced with your content
Save your completed slide using the required naming convention
Submit along with other required deliverables
โญ Example Summary Slides
Complete your conversation with the Company Launch Pad
The simulation will output a file named "[Company Name] PALS Profile.md"
Save this file somewhere easy to access - you'll need it for every simulation
Upload your current "[Company Name] PALS Profile.md" file at the start of each conversation
This ensures the simulation understands your company's context
If you see the ๐พย icon for a simulation, you'll need to update your profile after completion. Here's how:
Complete the simulation conversation
The simulation will provide a text block to add to your profile
Open your "[Company Name] PALS Profile.md" file using Notepad
Copy the provided text and paste it in the appropriate section
Save the file
Submit this updated profile along with your decision checklist and summary slide
Only update your profile when a simulation specifically requires it (indicated by the ๐พย icon)
Always use the most recent version of your profile file
Keep your profile file name consistent
Never delete or modify existing profile content - only add new information as instructed
Profile updates are part of your submission requirements for applicable simulations
Every simulation requires specific deliverables
Check the icon set below each simulation image for required submissions
Important: Review the Documentation Guide carefully as it may require additional deliverables beyond what's shown in the icon set
All work must be submitted through Canvas
ALWAYS submit your PALS conversation (via Shareable link)
When indicated by icons, submit:
๐ Completed documentation
๐ Summary slide
๐พ Updated PALS Profile (when required)
Use consistent file naming for all submissions
Submit all files in their original format
Double-check that all required components are included before submitting
Interacting with GPTs
Never delete your conversations - they are required for grading! Take screenshots if you're worried about losing them.
For the best experience:
Write in complete sentences
Ask questions if something isn't clear
Take time to think through your responses
Keep communication professional
Managing Your Company Profile
Your company profile is your foundation:
Save your profile details for easy reference
Only update when specifically instructed
Stay consistent with your company's characteristics
Making the Most of Assignments
Before starting:
Review all requirements carefully
Plan enough time for thoughtful conversation
Multiple sessions are fine - you can always come back
While working:
Connect responses to your company context
Explain your reasoning for decisions
Review conversations before submitting
Common Mistakes to Avoid
โ๏ธ Deleting conversations (these are part of your grade!)
โ๏ธ One-word or very short responses
โ๏ธ Inconsistent company details
โ๏ธ Generic answers that ignore your company context
โ๏ธ Rushing through without reflection
โ๏ธ Waiting until the last minute
Remember: Take your time, be thorough, and keep everything!
Q: How do I make sure the GPT knows about my company?ย
A: For every assignment, upload your PALS Profile and explicitly ask the GPT to review it at the start of your conversation. If the GPT's responses don't reflect your company's context, start a new conversation and make sure to emphasize profile review in your opening message.
Q: Help! My GPT seems confused about my company details or is acting unexpectedly.ย
A: This could happen for two reasons:
The GPT may have failed to read your PALS Profile - start a new conversation and explicitly ask the GPT to review the Profile you've uploaded
There might be a mismatch between what you're saying and your profile details - use Edit Prompt to revise your response and provide clearer context
Q: What if I make a mistake during a conversation with a GPT?ย
A: You can use the Edit Prompt feature to revise your response during an assignment. However, once you submit the assignment, those decisions are final and will affect future assignments.
Q: Can I change my industry/company after starting?ย
A: No - your initial company profile sets the foundation for the entire semester. Take time for careful consideration during the Company Launch Pad conversation.
Q: Do I have to complete assignments in order?ย
A: Yes. Each assignment builds on previous ones, and GPTs expect you to have completed prior assignments. The sequence matters for your company's narrative development.
Q: How do I submit my conversations for grading?ย
A: For each assignment, create and submit a Shareable link of your conversation. Never delete your conversations, as they are part of your grade.
Q: What if I need to step away in the middle of an assignment?ย
A: That's perfectly fine! The chat will remain active and you can return to continue later. Just don't delete the conversation or close the browser tab if you plan to come back.
Q: Sometimes the GPT gives me very different responses than my classmate got. Is this normal?ย
A: Yes! This is by design. The GPTs customize their responses based on your specific company profile and previous decisions. No two students should have exactly the same experience.
Q: What if I made a decision in a previous assignment that I wish I could change?ย
A: Just like in real business, you have to work with past decisions. Use it as a learning opportunity to think about how to make the best of the situation going forward.
Q: How detailed do my responses need to be?ย
A: Aim for clear, thoughtful responses that demonstrate understanding and connect to your company context. One-sentence answers are usually too brief, but you don't need to write essays either. A solid paragraph is often appropriate.
