React and Respond:

When you are reading and something you read sticks with you, stop to react and respond by writing about your feelings, discussing what gave you those feelings and try to make a text-to-world or text-to-text connection.

Lift a Line: Identify a Powerful Line, Quote or Part from text:

Find a powerful line, quote, or sentence from your independent reading book

Copy the line onto a loose leaf paper and write your thoughts, comments and reactions that sprung from that line.

Cornell Note-Taking based on text:

Based on the learning in reading and writing, you may take notes on what you have read using the Cornell note-taking system.

Make sure that Key Words, Questions and Main Ideas are on the LEFT column

In the RIGHT column are the notes you have taken while reading

In the BOTTOM section is your synthesis (in your own words) of what you have learned from your notes and key words.

*You must put all of this in your own words, not the direct words from your notes*
