P.S. 112's Italian Dual Language Program is the first of its' kind in a New York City Public School! The goal of our program is to raise awareness of Italian culture and encourage diversity, while simultaneously providing instruction in both English and Italian.
Instruction for the Dual Language Program is aligned to meet NYS Common Core Learning Standards. Literature, informational and foundational standards are delivered in English and Italian using grade appropriate texts. Writing instruction and tasks are standards based and allow for opportunities to use both languages. Mathematics and Science instruction is conducted in English with extension activities in Italian in order to build number sense, reasoning, and practice in the target language. Social Studies instruction is conducted in both English and Italian. Speaking and Listening is incorporated into all subject areas to meet grade level standards as well as develop language skills in both languages. The goal is to ensure that instruction is grade appropriate, rigorous and culturally related to the students.
