“Design a solution to reduce operational vibrations in a bore well drilling machine.”
Borewell drilling machines are subjected to intense mechanical vibrations during operation due to continuous impact, unbalanced rotation, and varying soil resistance. These vibrations lead to several critical issues such as reduced drilling efficiency, increased wear and tear of components, operator fatigue, and frequent maintenance needs. Existing machines often lack effective vibration control systems, making them inefficient and less durable under prolonged usage.
There is a need to analyse the sources of these operational vibrations and develop a cost-effective, reliable, and passive vibration mitigation system. This project aims to address this challenge by integrating Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs) into the drilling system, optimizing their design, and validating their effectiveness through simulation and field testing.
