Borewell drilling machines are subject to intense dynamic loads and vibrations during operation, especially when drilling through heterogeneous soil layers. These vibrations not only degrade machine performance and structural integrity but also lead to increased noise levels, rapid component wear, and operator discomfort. This project addresses this challenge by implementing Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs) as a vibration control solution.
TMDs are passive mechanical devices designed to absorb and counteract vibrational energy at specific frequencies. By tuning the mass and stiffness of the damper to the natural frequency of the drilling machine’s vibrating components, resonant amplification can be significantly reduced.
The project involves vibration analysis, TMD design and tuning, integration with the machine, and performance testing. After implementation, the system showed a measurable reduction in vibration amplitude, enhancing both machine efficiency and safety.
