Propel Project Interventions

Schools participating in the the Propel Project will be randomly assigned one of three research-based interventions - the Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction (SDLMI), Peer Supports (PS), or a comprehensive combination of the previous two interventions (SDLMI+PS). All the interventions are designed to support the academic, social, and functional outcomes of high school students with autism served in inclusive general education classrooms. Participating teachers will receive training and coaching by research staff on implementation and best practices for the assigned intervention.

THE PROPEL PROJECT COACHING MODEL

The purpose of the Propel Project Coaching Model is to ensure sustainable, systematic, and ongoing supports for facilitators so that they can improve their knowledge and skills in implementing the SDLMI, Peer Supports, and SDLMI Plus with fidelity to benefit students’ learning.

  • Propel Project Coaching Framework is composed of the six coaching principles and is intended to support coaches in providing effective coaching. It operationalizes actions associated with each principle.

  • Propel Project Coaching Stages is to actualize the coaching principles in practice through coaching tasks completed in four stages. The first occurs prior to an observation, the second stage during the observation and the last two stages (Reflect and Share) occur during the Coaching Session following the Coaching Observation.

Propel Project Coaching Framework: Embodies a shared vision, application, empowerment, equality, reflective dialogue, and trust. The coaching stages include planning and observing during observation sessions and sharing and reflecting during coaching conversations.

The Propel Project coaching model was adapted from the SDLMI Coaching Framework.
