As part of the Positive Robust PED Localities (PROPEL) project, numerous studies are being conducted with partners from Sweden, Türkiye, and Italy, who are part of the project consortium. PROPEL's innovative approach is to incorporate innovative Positive Energy Districts (PED) components and improve off-grid operation capabilities to increase the robustness and sustainability of PEDs. This strategy enhances the robustness and sustainability of PEDs by leveraging viable business models and innovative energy carriers, including energy recycling in the food-feed system, biogas, and access to PED systems. This strategy enhances the potential of off-grid operations and strengthens the sustainability of PEDs from social and governance perspectives. Within this context, a Decision Support System (DSS) and a PED Game have been developed as part of the project.
Decision Support System (DSS)
A comprehensive DSS was developed for Kadıköy, one of the study areas selected for the PROPEL project. This system was developed using a holistic approach, considering energy, environmental, social, and economic parameters, as well as findings from other project work packages. This aimed to define boundaries consistent with the PED concept and support sustainable planning processes in Kadıköy.
PED Game
A GIS-based PED game has been developed to engage decision-makers and stakeholders in the decision-making process, aiming to enhance energy awareness and to aid PED planning. By integrating gamification elements into the DSS, the game promotes active participation and makes complex energy transition processes more accessible. Users can understand how various criteria influence outcomes, improving awareness and facilitating collective learning. This study highlights the potential of combining DSS with gamification in PED planning.
Throughout the project, dissemination efforts were undertaken through the publication of articles and conference proceedings, and active participation in various academic conferences and workshops. These initiatives aim to facilitate the ongoing dissemination of findings and insights beyond the project's completion. This commitment to sustainable scholarly communication will continue beyond the project's completion. The 36-month project officially concludes, and our final meeting to discuss the project's outcomes and achievements will take place on October 8th.
