A Malaysian ACG Project aiming to promote both Malaysia and Japan
Current Phase: Vtuber Project (Official name to be decided)
We are currently holding an audition looking for a Malaysian who wishes to be a Vtuber.
Status: Ongoing
Deadline for registration: 21 SEP 2026
Malaysia is very attractive with great food, scenery, culture and history. However when the topic changes into entertainment, people will always look at our neighbor, Thailand. I wouldn't say Malaysia doesn't have entertainment, we do have most things that other countries offer but there is no denying we are still lacking behind in entertainment.
Indonesia, another neighbor of ours is also said to have a large market and thanks to Hololive, they now also have big icons that represent their country with millions of subscribers on YouTube. Hololive and Nijisanji are said to choose Indonesia due to its large market, as a business that is a logical decision and I respect that. On the other hand, I still believe the Malaysian market is being underestimated and under developed. If you ask any people in Malaysia, there is a surprisingly large subculture market. People grew up watching various foreign movies, drama, anime, cartoons and listening to foreign music. Malaysians have always loved the subculture entertainment and have a deep passion for it.
On another note, recently there is also a Japanese and Filipino descendant Vtuber, Zakuro Shiro who got famous due to a video posted "フィリピンに来なさい", which translates into "Come to Philippines". The video blew up and it even caused a trend which people made "Come to ____" Videos. Obviously, it wouldn't suddenly make a big impact in tourism just because of a few videos blowing up, but it shows the marketing power Vtubers hold in the current era. Even if just a little, it also helped raised awareness and made many Vtuber fans talk about Philippines.
Another success story in regards to Nijisanji Suou Sango and Shima Spain Village located in Mie Prefecture in Japan, the Vtuber repeatedly promoted the theme park about what she loves about the theme park which increased interest of people around the country to try and visit the place. Surprisingly, it was a hidden gem with well maintained facilities, great staff and interesting performances. This made the place blew up and since then their sales have vastly improved.
Just to clarify, Vtubers are being highlighted here due to the first phase of the project being related to Vtubers, but in reality there are much more to the ACG culture such as Anime, Jpop, Manga, Anisong, Games and etc, which significantly contributed to the success of Japan's subculture export.
Subculture has proven very useful to promote the country and locations as seen in Japan and Korea. Thus, considering the factors such as lacking in entertainment value and understanding the potential in Malaysia market, this led me to think why couldn't Malaysia do the same? If Malaysia also can achieve the same success story, it would definitely help to generate a new value to our local tourism and entertainment industry, outside of great food and diverse culture.
An ACG project was chosen simply because I myself really likes ACG and also Japan, how both have heavily influenced my life. This is where I strive with my understanding of Japan and ACG knowledge. Taking this chance I would also like to help promote and share the things that I love about Japan.
Thus, this is how the idea of a project to become the cultural bridge between Malaysia and Japan has born, which the project aims to promoting ACG, Malaysia and Japan.
Despite all the bright and shiny success stories, behind the scene there are uncountable amount of failures that never came to light. Realistically speaking, this project might end up in the same fate. I don't claim to be someone who is an expert, a pioneer or an experienced leader who had many achievements. I am just an ordinary otaku with a big dream.
But with deep considerations and planning based on my knowledge and experience, I believe to have come up with a clear path on how to make this project successful. Now, I just need to put it into work instead of dreaming. If you never try, you never know.
Before all of the big talks, the project needs a proof of concept or it will end up a dream talk with no real benefits.
I believe a supporting someone to become a Vtuber would probably be one of the best options available currently, due to my familiarity with Vtubers and skillsets that I currently posses. This option is probably the best one out of the other options that I have considered. So now I just need to find that someone to prove my concept.
You can learn more about the Vtuber Project with the below links, including what benefits will be provided, what are the requirements, what would the process be like
プロジェクト夜明星 (Project Yoakeboshi), the name takes in account of "The land of Rising Sun" and Malaysia’s Crescent, which forms the Kanji 明. "夜明" could mean sunrise, daybreak in physical meaning, it also could mean end of a dark age and the arrival of a bright future. Combining "夜明" with "星", wishing upon a star that would bring a brighter future. In which that star would be each individual under the project including fans and for those who may support the project in the future.
"A rising star bringing daybreaking light to the dark skies"
Unfortunately, currently I am on my own, which is why I launched this website hoping to look for like minded individual who would be willing to join this project.
