We use multiple video resources to serve as a kick-off like What Is School For? by Prince EA or to inspire the students with topics and also mentor texts for delivery.
Yes even in High School we still use picture books. Like Peter Reynolds, Say Something there are many picture books that, not only ask students to explore and ask questions but might also serve as that provocation needed to explore an inquiry question of their own.
I like to share with students that kids can accomplish amazing things when they put their minds to it. Craig Kielburger is an awesome example to discuss and this guide is a fantastic resource if asking students to explore world issues as part of their inquiry.
Students create their own Padlet but this #ProjectSpeak Padlet serves as a central location for links I want to share. All students have access so that they can access and watch things at their own pace. As I collect videos and articles they are posted to the Padlet for easy access. We begin each class by viewing and discussing different videos as students begin to form their inquiry topic.
Articles and Infographics
Because each student's topics of interest are different the articles and infographics that we access and use will vary. The Padlet above has some examples that could serve as support for inquiry.
