As part of our mission to promote mental health awareness beyond our school, Project Pandora will be hosting an outreach event at the Palatine Public Library and the Schaumburg Public Library. In recognition of May being Mental Health Awareness Month, our team will set up an interactive table outside the library to engage with teen patrons through a spin wheel activity, giveaways, and conversations focused on self-care and emotional well-being. By sharing resources and encouraging open dialogue, we hope to empower students to support themselves and seek help when needed. This event marks an exciting opportunity to connect with the broader community and continue spreading awareness in accessible, youth-friendly ways.
Project Pandora partnered with Sanjeevani to spread mental health awareness through a community 5K run that brought together people of all ages. The event wasn’t just about fitness—it was about starting conversations around emotional well-being in an open, supportive environment. Participants from different age groups came together to show their support for mental health, wearing signs, sharing stories, and joining in activities that encouraged connection and awareness. Through this run, we aimed to break the stigma, promote the importance of mental wellness, and remind everyone that taking care of your mind is just as important as taking care of your body. We also set up booths with resources, reflection stations, and interactive activities where people could learn more about mental health and coping strategies. The turnout and engagement we saw reaffirmed the need for more open conversations and community-driven initiatives around mental health.
We were thrilled to host "Smash the Stigma", a badminton rally dedicated to promoting mental health awareness in a fun and engaging way. Held after school on April 15th, the event invited students to come together, play badminton, and open up important conversations about mental wellness. Our goal was to create a safe and inclusive space where participants could "swing with purpose" and "rally for change"—using sport as a tool to challenge the stigma surrounding mental health. We wanted to show that mental health advocacy doesn’t always have to be heavy—it can be active, energizing, and community-driven. Along with the matches, we included informational resources and supportive messaging throughout the event to remind everyone that mental health matters. The turnout and enthusiasm exceeded our expectations, and it was inspiring to see students not only engage in the game but also support one another with empathy and positivity. Events like these remind us why we do what we do—creating space for awareness, connection, and change.
At Project Pandora, we hosted Yoga Day on May 1st, 2025, as a way to highlight the deep connection between physical movement and mental well-being. Held from 3 PM to 4 PM, the event invited participants to take a break from their busy schedules and come together for a relaxing, guided yoga session. Our goal was to show that even small moments of mindfulness and movement can have a powerful impact on emotional health. The session encouraged participants to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with themselves in a calming environment. It was a peaceful yet powerful reminder that caring for your mental health can start with something as simple as being present in your body. We were proud to see so many people join us in moving together for a cause that truly matters.
Our team recently organized an event at Sky Zone in collaboration with NAMI Chicago, a chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness—one of the nation’s leading organizations advocating for mental health awareness, education, and support. The event served as both a fundraiser and an awareness campaign, reinforcing our commitment to promoting mental health resources and education within our community. We chose Sky Zone as the venue because physical activity, particularly jumping and bouncing on trampolines, has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety levels by increasing endorphin production and improving overall mood. Jumping engages the body in rhythmic, repetitive motion, which can serve as a natural way to relieve tension and improve mental well-being. It also provided an outlet for individuals to release built-up stress and energy in a healthy, controlled environment. During the event, we spoke about anxiety awareness, discussing both risk and protective factors, and highlighted the importance of seeking help when needed. By partnering with NAMI Chicago, we helped connect individuals with professional resources and emphasized that mental health advocacy is a collective effort.
As part of our mental health advocacy efforts, our team organized a blanket-making event for our local hospital. We recognized that patients, especially those undergoing extended treatments, often experience high levels of stress, anxiety, and emotional distress. By creating these blankets, we aimed to offer not just physical comfort but also emotional reassurance to individuals facing health challenges. This initiative aligned with our mission of promoting mental well-being by showing that small acts of kindness and community support can make a significant impact on a person’s emotional state. The process of crafting the blankets itself also served as a mindful activity, reinforcing the importance of creativity and service in reducing anxiety and fostering positive mental health.
To further extend emotional support to those in difficult health situations, we wrote heartfelt cards to hospital patients, sending messages of encouragement, hope, and positivity. Many patients, especially those with chronic illnesses, experience loneliness and emotional strain, which can contribute to increased anxiety. Our goal was to provide them with a source of joy and reassurance, letting them know that they are not alone and that there are people in the community who care about them. The act of writing and decorating these cards also reinforced an important aspect of our campaign—promoting kindness and emotional connection as protective factors against anxiety. This initiative not only helped the recipients but also allowed us, as participants, to experience the power of empathy and the role it plays in mental well-being.
Recognizing the power of knowledge and storytelling in mental health advocacy, our team collected and donated self-help and inspirational books to our local library. Anxiety is often fueled by feelings of helplessness and uncertainty, and access to the right resources can provide individuals with tools to better understand and manage their emotions. Books on mindfulness, stress management, self-care, and mental resilience can empower people to take control of their well-being. By making these resources more accessible to our community, we aimed to provide long-term support for those struggling with anxiety.
To spread positivity and mental health awareness within our school, we organized a cookie-baking event where each treat was paired with an uplifting message. These messages included affirmations, reminders to prioritize self-care, and encouragement to seek support when needed. Our goal was to create an experience that would brighten students’ days while reinforcing the idea that small gestures of kindness can make a significant impact on mental well-being. The act of baking itself also served as a stress-relieving activity for our team, showcasing how engaging in creative, hands-on projects can provide a therapeutic escape from daily pressures. By distributing these cookies, we continued our mission of normalizing conversations around mental health and demonstrating that simple acts of encouragement can foster a more supportive and mentally healthy school environment.
As part of our ongoing mental health initiative, our team, Project Pandora, had the privilege of visiting the Behavidence booth. We assisted with the setup and operations, immersing ourselves in the experience and engaging directly with the creators. It was a valuable opportunity to learn more about their groundbreaking app, connect with like-minded advocates, and further our shared mission of spreading mental health awareness. We are grateful for this collaboration and excited to continue making a meaningful impact together.
We spent time packing nutritious meals for children in need, recognizing that proper nutrition plays a crucial role in cognitive function, emotional regulation, and overall mental health. Malnutrition has been linked to increased anxiety and stress, making access to healthy food a key factor in promoting well-being. This experience reinforced the importance of community service and how acts of kindness, no matter how small, can contribute to positive mental health outcomes. Through our involvement, we connected our campaign’s message—advocating for healthy habits—with a broader cause, emphasizing that mental health promotion extends beyond awareness and into tangible action that improves quality of life.
We took proactive steps to engage with our school counselors and district board members to advocate for our initiative. We met with counselors to discuss the growing concerns around anxiety among students and how our campaign could serve as a resource for promoting coping strategies, stress management, and mental health education. Their insights helped us refine our approach, ensuring that our content was accurate, relevant, and supportive for students struggling with anxiety. Additionally, we presented our initiative to school board directors, highlighting the importance of mental health advocacy within academic environments and proposing ways the school could integrate protective factors like healthy stress management, improved sleep habits, and balanced nutrition into wellness programs. These discussions strengthened our credibility, expanded our outreach, and allowed us to create a stronger support network for students while reinforcing our commitment to reducing stigma and fostering open conversations about mental well-being.
Putting Up Positive Message Bulletin Boards Around Our School
To create a visually uplifting and supportive school environment, we designed and placed bulletin boards with positive messages around our campus. These boards featured affirmations, mental health tips, and reminders about the importance of self-care. In the fast-paced, high-stress environment of a school, students often struggle with academic pressures, social challenges, and personal stressors. Seeing an encouraging message in the hallway or a tip on managing stress can serve as a small yet impactful reminder that they are not alone and that prioritizing mental health is important. This initiative aligned with our mission by incorporating accessible, everyday mental health support into our school community, demonstrating that even small interventions can contribute to a more positive and mentally healthy space.
