Welcome to Project GLiST website!
What is GLi-ST?
GLi-ST stands for Graph Literacy with a Focus on Students' Thinking.
What is graph literacy and why is it important?
Graph literacy is the ability to read and write graphical representations. This skill is important for students to learn mathematics and to succeed in STEM courses and careers. With a world that is constantly evolving with more and more forms of visual information available, graph literacy is even more essential as we navigate everyday life.
What's the goal of this project?
Our project's goal is to construct a new research-based framework to support the development of graph literacy.
To achieve this goal, we hope to learn more about what and how students think about graphs, including what strategies and resources they draw on when making sense of them. If we can understand more about how learners encounter graphs, we can use that insight to help us target the development of graph literacy better over time. Knowing more about students’ sources of thinking will allow us, along with educators and other researchers, to continue to support future learners in their own graphical journeys.
