General Capabilities and Cross-Curricular Priorities

The General Capabilities and Cross Curriculum Priorities

  1. Equip young Australians to live and work successfully in the twenty-first century.

  2. Encompass knowledge, skills, behaviours and dispositions.

They are:

  • embedded in the curriculum, in ways that are relevant and appropriate to the learning area

  • incorporated into Frameworks and courses

  • evident in Achievement Standards and content descriptions

  • they are not assessed independently or in isolation but are woven into the specific subject skills, knowledge and understandings

Reflection is a way of asking students to be aware of their learning and how they are learning. It is also a way to foster an appreciation of the General Capabilities and Cross Curricular Priorities.

Student self- reflection is woven throughout the Achievement Standards. Here is an example from the Humanities area:

reflects with insight on own thinking and learning and the significance of the Humanities and Social Sciences in shaping values and attitudes
