In this project I did a social media quiz about how I use and manage social media. Then I read two articles and the articles show that even though most Americans use social media, many believe it has a mostly negative effect on society.
After taking this quiz I learned that I use social media to much. My results stated "You're fairly reliant on social media, but there are far worse culprits, Still its good to be reminded that UK adults spend an average off 8 hrs 41 mins on screens everyday, and 4 hours of that on smartphone apps alone (mainly social media). That's about a third of each day checking apps. Do you need to rethink your social media habits and the amount of time you spend scrolling?". I thought that I use social media just fine becausee I compared myself to my friends and people I am around, but two to three hours is to much. So, I am going to work on being on social media less and to help that I am going to mute all social media notifications.
I think the most interesting statistic is that 64 percent of Americans say social media has a mostly negative effect on the way things are going in the United States because it shows that even though many people use social media everyday, a majority still believe it causes more harm than good. Which is funny to me because if more than half of the country think it's mostly negative. Then why do hundreds of millions of people use it everyday? I think that this is a question that maybe we should think about because yes social media is good when you are bored, but there are also a lot of different things you can do instead of scrolling on social media.
My opinion on social media is that it's a waste of time and brings no good into your life for the most part. But there are some positives, but I think there are more negatives than positives. A positive is that you can use it to advertise for something like a fundraiser or a buisness. Another positive is that you can use it to communicate with new people. A negative is that social media is a lot of opinions for example with politics no matter what side you are on things twists things to make the other side look bad and won't give the full story sometimes. This causes their to be misled information, this can also happen more now because of AI.
I learned that I am fairly reliant on social media which is weird because I only use it for like 2 to 3 hours a day and I didn't think it was a lot until now. With the articles I learned that even thought most Americans use social media, many belive it has mostly negative effect on society.
