Exercise 4E, question 5, page 85
The answer is 2.5 which is correct online and in worked solutions and later printings of the book.
Mixed Exercise 5, question 6, page 105
The book answer is correct, but the worked solutions are wrong, as they ignore the vertical component of the 20N force.
Exercise 6A, question 7, page 111
The original book has incorrect values for parts a and c, but the reprinted and online books have them correct as (a) 0.51 sec and (c) 3.4m
Exercise 6C, question 3a, page 117
The answer should be 45m (2sf) and not 44m. Correct in worked solutions and fixed in second printing and online.
Exercise 6C, question 8a, page 117
As we have used g=9.8, the components should be given to 2sf, so 36i+28j
This is wrong online and in the worked solutions.
Exercise 6D, question 7b, page 124
The answer is 10.3 which is correct online and in worked solutions and later printings of the book, but should be rounded to 2sf, ie 10.
Exercise 7C, question 7b, page 140
The original book is incorrect, the answer is 9.5 N (2sf) not 10.7 N. This is correct online and in worked solutions, but should be rounded to 2sf.
Chapter 7, extra examples and questions, page 144
The online and reprinted book has an extra Example 9 in order to give an example of a hinge question.
Later example numbers are incremented by 1.
Exercise 7D has been amended. Question 1 has an extra part. There are 2 extra questions in the reprinted and online book, numbers 12 and 13.
Mixed Exercise 7 has 1 extra question, number 14. Question 13 was the Challenge, and the other questions are the same.
The Solutionbank for both has been amended.
Exercise 7C, question 8c, page 140
The worked solutions correctly calculate F and R, but to work out mu, do the division the wrong way up. The answer given is correct, however.
Exercise 7D, question 9, page 145
Some early printings have part c with mu = root 3 / 6. This has now been corrected in the book and everywhere online to mu = root 3 / 5.
Exercise 7F, question 5a, page 153
The answer for a should be (10 + 2 root 3)/(5 - 2 root 3) but this is also equivalent to (62 + 30 root 3)/13.
Correct in later printings of the book, online and in worked solutions.
Part b was originally incorrect in the book. It should be 0.16 which is correct online and in the worked solutions, but needs to be rounded to 2sf.
Exercise 8C, question 10d, page 170
The original answer in the textbook ignores the result of 10c and the fact v=0 between t=4 and t=10. The correct distance is 178m (3sf, not 177.58 to 5sf!). This has been corrected in the reprint and online and in the worked solutions.
Exam-style practice, question 10b, page 189
Later printings of the book replace the incorrect 0.54 in the question with the correct 0.582 (3sf), but the answer should be to 2sf, hence 0.58. This is correct online and in worked solutions, but again should be changed to 2sf.
